Presidential Elections 2024: TVP, TVN and Polsat Debates

In connection with the upcoming presidential elections, TVP, TVN and Polsat broadcasts organised a presidential debate in which 2 finalists of the second circular of the election took part: Karol Nawrocki and Rafał Trzaskowski. This debate was called “one of the most crucial in the past of Polish politics”, as it will have a crucial impact on the choices made by voters.

Prior to the beginning of the debate, Rafał Trzaskowski said that Poles have the right to know about all the matters which Karol Nawrocki has previously hidden. Trzaskowski added that he learns something fresh all day and expects fresh information to appear after 2 June. He besides asked who Karol Nawrocki was, due to the fact that according to him, Poles do not know him.

Karol Nawrocki stated before the debate that he was not afraid of any question. erstwhile asked if he was under stress, he said no. His answer to 1 of TVN24's questions was that he should give Rafał Trzaskowski a chance and ask him all the questions he wants.

Jacek Prusinowski moderated the debate. The full debate was divided into six thematic blocks: health, global policy, economy, social policy, safety and planet view. In each round, candidates asked each another 3 questions, according to the rule: 30 seconds per question, 90 seconds per answer and 30 seconds per repost.

According to TVP information, the order of asking questions was determined by a draw. The subject block about wellness began by Karol Nawrocki, and then the candidates began alternately. The time of the candidates' statements was measured and visible, and its end signaled the sound of the gong. At the end of the debate, each candidate had 2 minutes to talk freely.

This debate is highly crucial due to the fact that it will aid voters to decide who will be the next president of Poland. According to a survey conducted by CBOS in March 2024, 48% of respondents support Karol Nawrocki and 42% support Rafał Trzaskowski. The another respondents did not take a position or answered the question.

It is worth noting that the presidential elections in Poland are very crucial due to the fact that the president has large powers, including the right to veto against laws adopted by the Sejm. The president besides represents Poland internationally and has a crucial influence on the country's abroad policy.

According to the figures of the Central Statistical Office, 64.5 % of those entitled to vote took part in the 2020 presidential election, which means that 20.6 million people cast their votes. In the first circular of the election, Andrzej Duda won 43.5% of the vote and Rafał Trzaskowski – 27.3%.

In the second circular of the election, Andrzej Duda won with Rafał Trzaskowski, winning 51.03% of the vote, while Trzaskowski received 48.97% of the vote. Turnout in the second circular was somewhat higher than in the first round, and amounted to 68.2%, which means that 22.1 million people took part in the vote.

It is worth remembering that presidential elections are very crucial for democracy in Poland and the future of the country. all citizen should participate in elections in order to be able to influence the future of his country.
