Under the fresh regulations, entering into force in the UK from 6 April 2026, farms with a value exceeding £1 million will be subject to 20% inheritance tax. This means a charge on assets that farmers mostly do not have in cash. After taking over the holding, the heirs will be forced to borrow only to pay taxation or to sale part of the land or production property.
The United Kingdom introduces rules that consequence in the disinheritment of farmers from their ancestral property and fragmentation of large farms. The London government, acting like the Bolsheviks in the russian Union, fighting in the 1930s the alleged "cuckles", wants to destruct the last independent social layer, or landowners. It allowed a 10-year spread of payments without interest, but this does not alter the fact that the taxation work concerns illiquid assets and crucial for the continuation of agricultural production.
Tax covers not only land and farm buildings, but besides agricultural machinery, including tractors and production equipment. For this reason, farmers clearly specify fresh regulations as a tractor tax. The opposition to these solutions has grown in Britain since the fall of 2024. respective weeks ago, despite police bans, the tractor convoys blocked the M4 motorway, and respective twelve machines missed the blockades and drove into central London on the day the government was sitting on a fresh budget.
Farmers in respective columns paralyzed the traffic around Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, Parliament, and King’s Cross Station. The police stopped any of the participants of the protest, in which a full of respective 100 tractors participated. In the British Islands, a peculiar stir was caused by the case of the suicide of an older farmer, who thus wanted to defend his boy from inheritance tax. Before his death, he informed about the mediocre financial situation of the farm resulting from the mediocre harvest and feared that the heir would be forced to sale the household estate.
The problem is not just about Britain. In France, the transfer of a farm to its descendants involves paying a taxation of about 30 percent of its value. The consequence is the deficiency of successors and the widespread debt of those who effort to proceed farming. After the protests, the government announced to consider taxation exemptions for farms worth up to £1 million, but even this threshold does not change the essence of the problem, i.e. the systemic impact on multi-generational agricultural property and the economical basis for food production.
These inhuman, indeed Bolshevik rules will only lead to a situation where tiny economies will rain and large ones will search legal paths, specified as companies to circumvent taxation. It's a way to destruct a full social group that inactive has the courage to fight for their rights on the street. Let us add that in Poland and the EU, a akin effect of weakening the agricultural social layer, is to scope an agreement with Mercosur.
