It was a communist empire whose all parts and subsidiaries had to implement the Communist Party's politics. After planet War II, Moscow actually ruled all Central and east Europe, which it received under agreements between the victorious German powers over the 3rd Reich: the US, UK and russian Russia. Military and political-economic objectives of the USSR were besides pursued by governments of supposedly free states: the Polish People's Republic, the GDR, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, etc.
The economical incapacity of the USSR and the failure of the arms race with the United States enabled strong national movements in the countries of the east Bloc. In 1991 the USSR ceased to exist, 15 fresh states emerged from its division, and countries specified as the Polish People's Republic and Hungary gained independence.
