Warsaw plans to make at least 2 Centres for the Integration of Foreigners, which creates mixed reactions among residents. The first 1 is to be opened soon, but the decision on their location was not consulted with the Warsawers, which creates controversy.

Centers for the Integration of Foreigners – what is it?

By Hanna Maliszewskia, spokesperson for the Mazovia Social Policy Centre, the centres will service as ‘minuaries’In which foreigners will receive comprehensive help. – In 1 place there will be representatives of the government side – from voivodships, local government and NGOs – explains Maliszewska.

The centres are to be built in Warsaw because, as investigation shows, the capital and its surroundings are the largest concentration of immigrants in Mazovia. – When the first 1 is opened, it may not be essential to open the second one. – adds the spokesperson.

Controversy on the deficiency of public consultation

Paweł Lisiecki, councillor of the Sejm of the Mazowieckie Province, criticises the authorities for deficiency of dialog with residents. During the session of the Sejm, he stressed that Residents fear the dangers of foreigners, including a decline in safety and cultural conflicts.

"Rafał Trzaskowski is so pro-citizen that even the location of a dog excavator is subject to broad public consultation. But the location of the Foreigner Integration Centres is besides serious to be consulted with residents.” – Lisiecki wrote on platform X.

Is the centers truly a origin for concern?

Although the authorities guarantee that the centres will be only information and administrative, any of the residents are inactive expressing concerns. However, it is worth noting that akin facilities already operate in another European cities, contributing to better integration of immigrants and to improve legalisation procedures.

Can Warsaw cope with the challenge of integration of foreigners? Are locals’ concerns justified? Time will show how fresh centers will affect life in the capital.
