The government has taken action to address the shortage of staff in the Polish police. In order to accomplish this, he plans to facilitate the recruitment process and attract erstwhile officers to the service of secondary schools. It is noted that the number of employees is presently besides low.

The draft amendment of the Law on Police of the Ministry of Interior and Administration was published on Wednesday on the website of the Government Legislative Centre. Its aim, as the applicant states, is to improve the procedures for qualifying for police work and to get as many suitable candidates as possible. The changes will mainly concern secondary school pupils, possible future officers. These facilities plan to make units with a uniform profile to recruit from their graduates in the future. Additionally, for former, competent and experienced police officers, a separate qualifying way will be created.

According to the justification for the project, the number of posts in police units as defined in the budget law for the current year is 108,909, but only 92,647 police officers are employed in March (of which 14 additional posts are financed by local governments). Thus, in Poland there are more than 16 1000 people missing to work in the police. A small over 5,100 fresh officers were accepted into service last year, while nearly 9,500 of them left service. The number of posts is besides expected to increase by the end of next year.
– In this state of affairs, it is highly crucial to introduce additional, fresh legal solutions that will respond to the current challenges and will consequence in additional candidates gathering the expectations of the service – highlighted in the explanatory memorandum. -New solutions must follow changes and respond to the needs of the Police staff, and take into account the specificity of the labour marketplace and the profile of candidates and their predispositions – indicated.
In practice, according to the planned amendment, the qualifying process for graduates of secondary schools will be shortened. According to the project, 1 of its stages, namely the fitness test, will be carried out at school level. On the another hand, the recruitment procedure for erstwhile police officers will depend on the period during which they did not serve, as well as on their professional qualifications and police level.
