Another priest was kidnapped in northwestern Nigeria. Fr Emmanuel Ezema of the parish church of St Peter in Rumi, was abducted by armed men on Tuesday 2 December, informed the Catholic Diocese of Zaria, as quoted by portals Fides and Vatican News.
The diocese appealed for prayer for his release. It is not yet known whether there has been contact with the kidnappers or whether ransom has been demanded.
Zaria is located in the state of Kaduna in north-western Nigeria, a region that has been plagued by an expanding sense of uncertainty for years. Crime and force origin constant suffering to the inhabitants. Many victims of kidnapping are those from different social groups. Yesterday, the Catholic archbishop of the capital of Abuja, Ignatius Kaigama, described the situation in his homeland as "brutal and terrible".
The current incidental is another in a series of violent attacks that shake Nigeria. Since mid-November, more than 400 people have been kidnapped in Nigeria.
