The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, confirmed her willingness to proceed negotiations with the United States at various levels in order to address the problem of tariffs through dialog and without retaliatory measures.

"We are ready to negotiate. At the same time, we are preparing possible remedies, but we like to scope a solution through negotiations," said von der Leyen to reporters in Brussels.

She besides commented on the deficiency of contact with US president Donald Trump , noting that at this phase the method issues of a possible future agreement were being discussed. According to the head of the EC, method details request to be established first, and only after that will "be possible further steps".

Last week U.S. president Donald Trump announced the introduction of "mutual" customs duties on imports from another countries. The minimum standard rate will be 10%, but customs rates in each country will represent half of the rates charged to companies importing American goods. At the same time, the customs work on EU goods is 20%. Trump said it would be a " Declaration of economical Independence" of the United States and that it would aid to usage the "bilion dollars" to repay public debt.
