The Ukrainian Veterans Corps announced the beginning of its first centre in Europe on 19 September in Warsaw. The facility declares psychological, legal and professional assistance to veterans and their families. Law and Justice Members request the government to supply information on service control and funding. The safety of Poles and the transparency of the abroad organization related to the Azov environment are at stake.
The first specified centre outside Ukraine
The beginning of the Warsaw point was announced during UA Fest. The Veterans Corps presents him as the first centre of the organization in Europe. According to the declaration, the facility is to support Ukrainian soldiers, veterans and their relatives, including the families of the fallen, missing and taken prisoner. The aid is intended to include psychological, legal and professional support.
Such a scope of activities is not in itself reprehensible. The consequences of Russia's war with Ukraine are real, and returning soldiers to civilian life requires professional help. This besides shows psychological support programme for veteran families, led by the Veterans Corps with the Future for Ukraine Foundation. However, Poland has a full right to know who conducts specified activities in its territory, with which money and under whose supervision.
Civil organisation and real relations with Azov
You gotta separate the confirmed facts from the net shortcuts. The Veterans Corps is simply a Ukrainian non-governmental organization, not the Azov military unit. No evidence was provided that the Warsaw Centre was conducting recruitment or paramilitary activities. It would be unfair to spread specified claims as a fact.
At the same time, the organization did not come out of nowhere. It was created at the initiative of the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, commanded by Andrij Biłecki, the creator and first commander of the 2014 Azov Battalion. This justifies the interest of Polish public opinion. However, it does not justify collective judging of the Ukrainians or attributing blame to the people utilizing the aid of the facility.
The Law and Orders Questions to Government
PiS MP Andrzej Śliwka demands urgent explanations as to whether the Polish authorities knew about the initiative, whether it was checked by the competent services and whether its impact on State safety was assessed. PiS politicians besides ask about sources of backing and the possible share of public money. These are simple questions, not a manifestation of hostility towards the Ukrainian people.
Plums before put safety and sovereignty at the heart of the dispute over state decisions. Now his position was supported by Przemysław Czarnek. According to Polsat News, the politician warned that Poland must not become the basis for problems that Ukraine will face after the war.
This war will leave hundreds of thousands of people in request of treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration. The scale of human drama besides shows data on missing persons during Russia's war with Ukraine. aid is needed. The work to control the state does not disappear.
Hospitality Does Not Disable Sovereignty
The government should clearly state the legal position of the centre, its financing rules, its scope and the result of any verification by the services. If everything is done in accordance with the law and the declared social profile, the public should receive specified confirmation. If there are gaps in supervision, they request to be removed.
Poland can aid an ally attacked by Russia, while at the same time keeping a firm eye on its own order. A mature state does not choose between aid and security. It sets rules, checks abroad structures and answers to its own citizens. This is what Poles have the right to anticipate about the Warsaw centre.
