UNational historian attacks Poland: “Poles are prisoners of their own trauma”

Ukrainian UNIAN portal published an interview with Ołesia Isajuk, historian and worker of the Lviv branch of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, in which she commented on the bill on "banderyism" prepared by Karol Nawrocki. According to her, Poles “being prisoners of their own complexes and trauma” form a law aimed at Ukrainian nationalism.

Isajuk noted that the draft fresh law differs from the erstwhile 1 from 2018, which afraid deeds, while the current task focuses on the ideology of “badderism”. In her opinion, this ideology aimed to revive the Ukrainian state and fight for independence, not the extermination of Poles. She compared this to the current situation, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine are fighting for independence, and their anthem derives from CNS songs.

-If you perceive to Nawrocki and the company, it was an ideology which OUN-UPA worshipped that aimed to destruct Poles – the part of the Polish nation that inhabited Ukraine. Although in fact the only nonsubjective of the CNS-UPA was the revival of the Ukrainian state. And this rebirth was achieved through the armed struggle. I mean, according to Nawrocki's logic, it turns out this fight was criminal. – claims a disgusting Ukrainian.

Historian warned that the fresh law could lead to repression of Ukrainians in Poland, specified as punishment for the usage of the red-black flag, patriotic shouts, and military songs. She added that specified actions were seen by the Ukrainians as "a betrayal of allies" and compared them to the situation from 1920 to 1921 erstwhile Poland was to enter into an agreement with the Bolsheviks, which contributed to the collapse of the Ukrainian People's Republic.

Isajuk besides recalled the appeal of Ukrainian historians who announced the anticipation of Ukraine adopting akin legal acts concerning the National Army and Peasants Battalions. In his reply, the Institute of National Memory in Poland issued a message in which he stressed that attempts to assemble Ukrainian nationalist formations with the activities of Polish independency structures are not authorised.

What we are observing is simply a public effort to revise historical and relativize Ukrainian crimes in Poles. Ukrainian elites and their "historians" want to impose false narrative, glorifying the banners liable for genocide on our citizens. Poland must powerfully argue these attempts, remind the planet of the fact about Volyn and Kresach and defend its own past and identity.
