The portal is critical of the draft law of president Karol Nawrocki, which assumes strengthening of Polish citizenship by extending the required period of permanent residence from 3 to 10 years. The European fact evaluates this step as an effort to reduce the process of naturalization of Ukrainians and accuses Poland of rising xenophobia.
An example of “xenophobic activities” was the deportations of Ukrainian citizens after incidents related to the Max Korż concert, during which the National Stadium was devastated, and in the crowd there was a flag symbolism. The portal besides criticises “the expectations of the Polish authorities” so that Ukrainians work, pay taxes and keep employment, recognising them as a manifestation of resentment towards foreigners.
The European fact calls on the Ukrainian community in Poland to organise themselves politically or to search allies among Polish parties. According to the author, immigrants should influence the decisions of the country in which they live, so as not to “be held hostage by the Polish interparty conflict”.
The portal forecasts that the number of Ukrainians fulfilling the conditions for applying for citizenship will increase. While the Polish card holders dominated earlier, present a increasing group of economical migrants who arrived after 2014. If 70-80% of them decide to naturalize, an electorate capable of influencing election results in any regions of Poland may be created.
