LEEDS, UK- Two separate Jet2 Airline (LS) flights experienced mid-air diversions in recent incidents. The unplanned landing caused significant delays for passengers as authorities dealt with the situation before the flight could continue to its destination.

A Jet2 (LS) aircraft, Boeing 737-800, travelling from Turkey to England, was forced to make an emergency landing in Budapest (BUD) after the crew reported an issue with engine number one while cruising at 36,000 feet. In another incident, a Jet2 (LS) holiday flight from Manchester (MAN) to Alicante, Spain (ALC), had to divert to Barcelona (BCN) on Friday due to disruptive passenger behaviour.

Jet2 Budapest Emergency Landing

A Jet2 (LS) aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, made an emergency landing in Budapest, Hungary (BUD) on Saturday, April 26, 2025, following engine problems during a flight from Turkey to the United Kingdom.

Flight LS622 departed from Dalaman, Turkey (DLM), en route to East Midlands Airport in England (EMA) when the crew reported an issue with engine number one.

The aircraft, bearing registration G-JZBC, was cruising at an altitude of 36,000 feet along its scheduled flight path when the problem occurred.

Air traffic controllers promptly vectored the plane to Budapest Airport (BUD), where it safely landed on runway 31R approximately 2 hours and 19 minutes after its departure.

Passenger Remarks

Passengers aboard the flight described the experience during the final approach to Budapest Airport (BUD) as similar to strong turbulence. According to sources cited by AIRLIVE, the 7-year-old aircraft suffered an oil leak in its left engine, necessitating the emergency diversion.

As of the latest reports, the aircraft remains under maintenance at Budapest Airport (BUD), with technical crews working to address the engine issue.

Barcelona Diversion

In a separate incident that occurred one day earlier, another Jet2 (LS) flight encountered difficulties requiring an emergency landing.

On Friday, April 25, 2025, Flight LS881, travelling from Manchester Airport (MAN) in the UK to Alicante, Spain (ALC), was forced to divert to Barcelona (BCN) due to unruly passenger behaviour.

The Boeing 737-800 unexpectedly landed at Barcelona Airport (BCN) after passengers reportedly became disruptive during the journey. Local authorities were summoned to the aircraft upon landing to handle the situation.

Flight to Alicante

Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 showed the aircraft making a loop above the city of Sabadell in Catalonia before hooking over the Mediterranean Sea to land at Barcelona Airport (BCN).

After police removed the disruptive individuals from the aircraft, the flight eventually continued to its intended destination of Alicante (ALC), arriving shortly before 10 PM local time.

A Jet2 (LS) spokesperson addressed the incident in a statement to Metro: “Flight LS881 diverted to Barcelona so that police could offload some disruptive passengers. The aircraft continued to its destination after a delay.”

“As a family-friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour.”

The unplanned stop caused a significant 3-hour delay for the remaining passengers on board who were continuing to Alicante (ALC).

Recent In-Flight Disruptions

These incidents follow a pattern of similar disruptions on commercial flights in recent months. Last month, a holiday flight from Spain to London Gatwick (LGW) had to make an emergency landing after a physical altercation erupted between two families. That confrontation reportedly began when a child was allegedly watching “The Karate Kid” at excessive volume.

In October, before the U.S. presidential election, a British Airways (BA) flight experienced a two-hour delay following an alleged altercation between two American women over a Donald Trump “MAGA” hat.

In an unrelated incident involving aircraft safety, passengers on a Delta Air Lines (DL) Flight 1213 at Orlando International Airport (MCO) underwent an emergency evacuation using slides after an engine caught fire before takeoff. Fortunately, all passengers and crew were safely evacuated from that aircraft with no reported injuries.
