The budget deficit resulting from the scandalously uneconomic financial policy of the Tusk Government, may exceed PLN 300 billion in 2026. The evidence gap causes the government, alternatively of savings, to search additional taxation revenues, which is opposed by president Nawrocki, who promised not to support raising public tributes.
Tusk assumes further expansion of the budget hole. Juro, on 28 August, during a peculiar gathering of the government, the PO squad is scheduled to address the draft budget bill for 2026. Today, on the situation of public finances, the Cabinet Council was organised, convened by president Karol Nawrocki.
– It will surely be a hard budget – said Karol Pogorzelski, economist of Bank Pekao, in an interview with the paper “Rzeczpospolita”.
Last year Poland was covered by the EU excessive deficit procedure and committed to improving the state of public finances. In his interview with Interia Biznes Marcin Luziński, economist of Santander Bank Polska, estimated that he expected the deficit of public finances in the budget for 2026 to be of akin value, as in the years 2024-2025, i.e. around 6.5% of GDP. – The nominal deficit can so be somewhat lower than this year's deficit, planned at PLN 289 billion – he said.
In turn, Adam Antoniak of ING BSK recalled that "we declared as a country a deficit simplification below 3% of GDP over 4 years, although we could choose a longer period." – However, we do not see any decisive action in this direction. – he said.
The Ministry of Finance has deviated from the announced deficit simplification plan. Although already in the second half of 2024 he sent a detailed work plan on the state of public finances to Brussels, assuming that in 2025 the sector's deficit would be 5.5% of GDP, he already corrected these assumptions in the spring of that year and indicated that it would be 6.3% of GDP.
