Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the government would adopt a regulation suspending the right to apply for asylum tonight. This decision is made after president Andrzej Duda has signed an amendment to the Act on granting protection to foreigners in the territory of Poland. The fresh rules let temporary restrictions on the right to asylum in consequence to the expanding number of illegal border crossings.

New rules: Temporary suspension of asylum

The bill, adopted by the legislature on 13 March and signed by the president on 26 March, introduces the anticipation of temporary and territorial restrictions on the submission of applications for global protection. The regulation could be introduced by a regulation of the Council of Ministers at the request of the Minister of the Interior and Administration.

  3. "Are state authorities presently taking action to implement the European Commission's guidelines on the implementation of the Asylum and Migration Pact, specified as the construction of the Centres for the Integration of Foreigners?"
  4. "What actions have been taken within the Polish Presidency to change the position of the European Commission and to get financial support for the construction of border safety to guarantee the safety of the EU's external border as well?"

Government acts immediately – regulation inactive today

Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that Government will immediately implement the fresh rules.

"This evening, the government will adopt a regulation suspending the right to apply for asylum. Just as I announced – without delay” – he wrote on the X platform.

New solutions are aimed at preventing abuse of asylum systems and increase the safety of the borders of Polandwhich are at the same time the external border of the European Union.
