Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the leader of PSL, announced the establishment of the Wincent Witos Institute in August 2023, highlighting its importance for Polish tradition and history. The task assumed an first grant of PLN 10 million, followed by yearly financing of PLN 5 million. Although the Civic Platform initially expressed skepticism, it now abruptly changed its head – what is behind this decision?
From scepticism to acceptance – abrupt change of position of KO
As reported by Rzeczpospolita, the PSL task went to the Sejm in late October 2023, but it was not until March 2024 that the Sejm Committee on Education and discipline took care of it. The first gathering lasted only 15 minutes, and the extraordinary subcommittee was slow. Only another gathering revealed interior disputes in the coalition.
– We had large doubts about an institution that could become a transportation girl to the PSL – an anonymously acknowledged 1 of the coalition politicians. KO MP Kinga Gajewska even asked for a break from work, arguing this with a "unknowable thread".
Suddenly consent – is this the Tusk-Kosiniak-Kamish arrangement?
Tuesday's committee gathering brought a amazing return – the draft was accepted within 40 minutes, with tiny amendments. Furthermore, the Ministry of discipline and Higher Education (controlled by the Left) issued a affirmative opinion.
The “Rzeczpospolita” suggests that a abrupt change of position of KO may be part of a broader arrangement between Donald Tuski and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish. In the background, tensions stay in the coalition after the losing presidential election.
Will the Witos Institute rise?
The draft will now go to Parliament. If it is accepted, it will be a crucial triumph for the PSL, but besides a signal that in the ruling coalition there are silent gameplay.
