U.S. president Donald Trump said after a telephone conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin that advancement had been made in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Putin and Trump made a telephone call on Monday. As the Russian leader explained, it lasted more than 2 hours.
"We just spent 2 and a half hours talking to Putin and I believe that any advancement has been made in this terrible situation," Trump said during a speech in the White House, commenting on efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
Trump noted on May 17 that he was planning on having a telephone conversation with Putin on May 19. Russian President's spokesperson Dmitri Pieskov had previously said that the head of state would hold a telephone conversation with the American leader on Monday at 17:00 Moscow time, calling it crucial in the context of talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations held in Istanbul on 16 May.
