One of the top plagues of modernity is in vitro. Unfortunately, it is supported not only by the left, but besides by the increasing part of the right. Although the Catholic Church officially opposes it, there is simply a deficiency of commitment in practice to fight against in vitro; it sometimes seems as though the clergy had accepted it in practice. However, this is simply a phenomenon that brutally affects the dignity of human life and reconciles in many ways in the Creator himself.
Poland and America. The Way to Fall
In November 2023, the Parliament of the Republic adopted a bill that introduced in vitro procedure backing from the budget. The initiative came from left-wing Liberal majority MPs, but was besides supported by part of the politicians of the nominally Chadetic Law and Justice. It seemed apparent that the bill would be rejected by president Andrzej Duda.
W The bill was supported by those PiS MPs who have clear inclinations towards the centre, specified as Mateusz Morawiecki. Andrzej Duda has always appeared as a supporter of a greater right-hander, which was besides motivated by his Catholic faith. Although in 2020 the president filed a bill that was intended to legalize prenatal infanticide in the event of the child's illness being diagnosed, he did so under severe force under the circumstances surrounding the Constitutional Court's judgement and mass street protests. In December 2023 he had the chance to any degree wash off this stain, blocking the in vitro bill.
Unfortunately, he did not. Without explaining this decision to the public, Parliament's proposal simply accepted. As a result, all Poles consist of public tributes for the in vitro procedure. No major objections were raised publically in the light of the decision of Parliament and the President. In addition to a narrow group of conservative Catholic media, the case went unnoticed. The hierarchy of the Catholic Church was simply scandalous.
There were no protests in this case. president of the Polish Episcopal Conference Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki sent a letter to the President, calling for him not to sign the bill. However, the letter was highly conciliative. The Archbishop claimed that he could not exert "any formal pressure" on the President, since "the deed he asks for" – that is, not signing the bill – "requires courage." He appealed only to the president's conscience, but did not point to any legal-canonical or even moral consequences. It looked like a pro-form protest, pre-conceived to fail.
Republicans in the United States besides present increasing acceptance for the in vitro procedure. A fresh political programme was adopted at the party's convention in July 2024. It includes strong and clear support for the in vitro procedure. president Donald Trump himself has repeatedly promised that during his governments he will lead to the spread of this procedure, so that it becomes cheaper and thus more accessible to American women. Vice president J. D. Vance, although Catholic, announces désintéressement in vitro, claiming that not all component of ecclesiastical teaching must be reflected in state policy. In the case of in vitro, the reality of the public views on this subject should be accepted. Ted Cruz went even further, naming something wonderful during last year's in vitro election campaign. Cruz is simply a Protestant, but very conservative, for example, about abortion. However, there are no brakes in vitro.
Why is the in vitro procedure so wicked?
Firstly, the procedure is frequently referred to as in vitro fertilisation. In practice, this means that an egg is collected from a woman, and semen is collected from a man. This standard means that a man commits the sin of onanism; sin cannot be justified by the intent in which he is committed. So 1 of the first acts of the in vitro procedure is sin. The Creator, who foresaw a sexual act between married couples as the appropriate way of conception, is thus offended, and God’s insult becomes a structural part of the procedure.
Secondly, embryos are grown under laboratory conditions. From the point of view of biology and the teachings of the Church, embryos are human. erstwhile embryos have been obtained, genetic investigating may be performed for possible diseases. This means that a eugenic choice is made between created people. any are meant to be born, others are not. It is simply a violent violation of the dignity of all man, which again seriously offends God as the Creator.
Thirdly, embryos can be selected in terms of gender. In Poland it is forbidden in theory, in another countries it is allowed. The rule of sex selection violates the equality of man and female created by God in his image and likeness, which offends the Creator again.
Fourthly, only any of the embryos enter the woman's uterus, receiving a chance to make and give birth. What happens to the another embryos?
According to Polish law, embryos are frozen for a maximum of 20 years. The law doesn't specify what happens next. Theoretically, it is suggested to transfer frozen embryos for adoption to those couples who cannot produce the embryo themselves. However, it is likely that more embryos are produced over the years than are implanted into the uterus. That means that any frozen embryos will never be implanted. What about them?
They can be frozen indefinitely, nevertheless further freezing weakens them and can lead to death. In further freezing, therefore, the game with human life is necessarily entered, it is manifestly sinful, due to the fact that in an unauthorised way it exposes a individual to death.
Moreover, the data shows that a statistically crucial proportion of embryos die during thawing. That means that even freezing embryos with the intention of giving each embryo for adoption involves a serious vulnerability of the embryo to death.
Further, embryos can besides be simply destroyed, which is simply a direct homicide.
You can besides donate embryos to research, which is tantamount to killing, coupled with experimenting on an innocent human being.
In many countries, there are no restrictions on the disposal of embryos. For example, in the United States, this is governed by state law. This means that in any states embryos considered unnecessary are simply killed.
Sins Crying for Vengeance to Heaven
It follows that in vitro it involves at least 3 sins:
– separation of sexual act from marriage;
– eugenic selection;
- Murder.
Even if in explanation 1 could consider carrying out a full procedure that would avoid these sins, in practice this is not the case. In vitro is simply an absolutely sinful procedure, during which a number of interior wrongs are committed. Therefore, from a Catholic position there is no anticipation to support the in vitro procedure. This evil should be categorically opposed. Those Catholics who, after this, have intellectual competence and the anticipation of public speaking with a real chance to hear it, are morally obliged to do so. This means that politicians and bishops cannot keep indifference to the in vitro procedure, treating it as 1 of the usual elements of the existing reality.
This peculiarly involves the fact that the procedure of freezing embryos is necessarily closely related to the murder. The catechism of the Catholic Church lists a number of sins calling for vengeance to heaven. The first is simply a deliberate homicide. The in vitro procedure involves committing a large-scale deliberate murder. That's why you can't keep quiet about this.
The Dignity of all Life
Jesus Christ became human, died for the sins of each of us, and yet rose from the dead, winning over death. The very creation of man by God is simply a sign of the large dignity of all human life, but God’s Incarnation gives it an additional dimension. all human being is called to the resurrection and direct viewing of God in his Kingdom. This applies not only to those who were born, but besides to those who were created in vitro as embryos. Human embryos are endowed with the same dignity as those born. Therefore, their artificial production, freezing, and killing is simply a large sin.
In our day, however, human life is increasingly regarded as worthless in itself. The in vitro procedure becomes part of state policy. If the State defines in vitro as a way to increase fertility, it begins to disseminate in vitro. In this way, he leads a profoundly wicked bio-politics, the foundation of which is the rejection of God and utmost materialism. All those who live in specified a country do not protest against in vitro but accept it as average are, to any extent, complicit in the wrongdoing they commit. Therefore, as Catholics, we must constantly protest against human breeding attempts. It is besides worth remembering your own fate. Since materialism and rejection of God are the principles of the in vitro procedure, it can easy and rapidly besides turn against the living, for example in the form of the dissemination of euthanasia or another forms of systemic treatment of already born humans as animals that can be managed on an industrial scale, depending on the needs of the state.
Let us pray to God to remember the rulers, the wisdom for the shepherds of the Church, and the courage for the secular ones who should advocate for the protection of the unborn life at all phase of it without any exceptions, starting with the life of the embryos.
