On 20 March, prof. Peter Singer, a philosopher known for his extremist and morally dubious views, will be lectured at the Faculty of Sciences on Education of the University of Lodz. His theories on animal rights, postnatal abortion, and the ethics of life and death rise large controversy and deserve strong opposition from the academic community and society.
Who's Peter Singer?
Peter vocalist is an Australian philosopher who, as all media study to the public, puts in his utilitarian work the "good of the general beyond individual laws" and "the dignity of man." His book Animal Liberation (1975) became a manifesto of the animal rights movement, but his views on human life and moral ethics transcend the limits of ethics and common sense.
Singer's most disturbing views
The Australian prof. puts animal rights above human dignity. vocalist compares animal suffering to human suffering and believes that treating animals as a origin of food or experimentation is morally reprehensible. However, his extremist approach undermines the uniqueness and value of human life, which constitutes a dangerous foundation of anti-human ideology. In an interview with a German magazine Der Spiegel In 2001, vocalist stated that sexual relations between humans and animals can be acceptable unless they origin animal suffering. specified statements are not only outrageous but besides a threat to fundamental ethical standards and to the law.
Moreover, in his book Practical Ethics vocalist argues that newborns, especially those with genetic defects, do not have awareness yet, and so their lives can be terminated if it is in the best interests of the kid or parents. vocalist advocates the right to euthanise and abortion, arguing that the value of life comes not only from being a human being, but from having self-consciousness and the ability to feel suffering. He claims that the life of a newborn or a individual in a vegetative state may have little moral value than that of a healthy animal. This highly immoral position is an outright attack on the right to live the weakest and the helpless.
The Australian prof. is simply a large manipulator and he knows how to warm his image despite extremist views. vocalist claims that wealthy people have an work to donate much of their income to combat global poverty. Although the thought of aid is noble, its extremist utilitarianism is based on moral blackmail and deprives people of the right to freedom of decision.
Why should we object?
Peter Singer's invitation to Łódź University is an act of legitimizing his scandalous views that undermine the dignity of human life and advance ideas contrary to fundamental ethical values. A man who has no respect for the lives of his youngest has no right to appear publically in the faculty of teaching. We cannot stay silent with a philosopher who justifies killing newborns and accepts deviant behavior.
We appeal to the academic community, students and all those at heart to defend the dignity of human life to express their opposition to this lecture. Let us not let controversial and immoral ideas to gain acceptance under the cloak of academic freedom. The lecture will be held on 20 March at 1 p.m. at the Faculty of Education. Let us unite to show that moral values and respect for human life are more crucial than extremist utilitarian philosophy.
