"The leading subject of this communicative is the communicative of hope in hopelessness, that is, persistently renewed efforts to regain freedom, to overcome it, to name betrayal and not to constantly lament, but to fight for victory," writes Prof. Andrzej Nowak in his introduction to his fresh book "The Nation Undefeated. Breakthrough moments of Polish history” (White Raven).

A prominent historian and author one more time reviews our history, carefully examining the destiny of Poland and its inhabitants, looking especially at fundamental values specified as freedom, faith, combat, conscience which has always shaped the destiny of our Homeland. It recalls that although the state sometimes fell, the Polish nation was never defeated. Referring to the old Sarmatian beliefs, he compares the Republic to the sun, which, despite the momentary darkness, always rises again, full of radiance and strength. “Poland is like the sun: it rises and sets, but it does not die” – this is how our Homeland has found its way to rebirth and triumph for centuries.

Prof. Nowak's latest work is simply a tale of courage – both the physical 1 that calls for action, conflict and uprising, and the intellectual 1 that stimulates the spirit and forces reflection. This is simply a position “about hope that should never be lost erstwhile it comes to our homeland”, explains the author. “The hope is that we must not give up, that we must fight, that it is worth it and that we must fight: for our homeland,” he explains.

On the pages of his book, he evokes the full tribe of Polish patriots, whose attitudes were and are inactive a constant origin of inspiration. He dreams stories of wise and courageous people, but besides of those who resign, although the latter, as he points out, were never right, as evidenced by the communicative of which the buried, forgotten, manipulated, reduced to a terrible caricature are inactive working, for centuries, enemy authorities of the Republic. That's why it's so crucial that we know and remember this story.

Prof. Andrzej Nowak not only reminds us of breakthrough moments in our history, but besides draws attention to contemporary challenges. He stresses that the spirit of discouragement, which sometimes permeated the nation, must be overcome by the courage of reasoning and action. “The answer to the feeling of hopelessness must first be courage: courage of action, uprising, struggle. For example, the Bar Confederates and their followers, the Kościuszko insurgents, November 1830, the insurgents of January 1863, up to those brave people who challenged the russian pier and inspired St John Paul II launched a solidarity avalanche," he writes.

His book responds to today's attempts to obscure the meaning of past and spread alleged policies of shame. Prof. Nowak rejects these attitudes, reminding that the past of Poland is full of moments of glory which cannot be forgotten or minimized.

In the “Undefeated Nation”, we will find 23 fascinating, beautifully illustrated stories that not only revive the breakthrough moments of Polish history, but besides inspire reflection on what it means to be part of a nation with specified rich and relentless heritage. This book is simply a unique lesson in patriotism, which draws from the first page and – as always in the case of this author – is read perfectly.

It is simply a mandatory position for anyone who wants to realize the roots of contemporary challenges and find inspiration in the fates of ancestors who have never given up in the conflict for freedom and dignity.
