On Thursday, the European Commission accused TikTok of violating the EU Digital Services Act to guarantee transparency of advertisements placed on the platform," the EC stated in a statement.

"The European Commission present informed TikTok of its preliminary opinion that the company is not fulfilling the work under the Digital Services Act (DSA) to print advertising... The investigation showed that TikTok does not supply the essential information on the content of advertising, the users to whom the advertisements are addressed, and those who paid for the advertisements," the paper states.

The EC noted that the social network must now send a written explanation of claims to Brussels. Otherwise, the European Commission is threatening to impose on the platform advanced penalties of up to 6% of global turnover.
