On 22 January 2025, a press conference was held by representatives of the WiN Confederation, during which Deputy talker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak and president of the Seym Club Grzegorz Płaczek expressed their reservations about the planet wellness Organization (WHO). The main subject of the gathering was the decision of the United States to leave the WHO and the future of Polish membership of this organization.
Bosak: WHO dominated by lobbying
During his speech, Krzysztof Bosak recalled president Donald Trump's decision to retreat the US from the WHO. He stressed that akin actions are besides possible in Poland. "This fast quality of president Trump's fresh administration is simply a sign that you can. You can do things that politicians in Poland cannot imagine," Bosak said.
The Deputy talker of the Sejm criticized the WHO for its actions during the COVID-19 pandemic, calling them chaotic and ineffective. In his opinion, the organisation is dominated by lobbying and does not act in the interest of the associate States. "The erstwhile government, like the current government, has constantly introduced Poland to the regulation of sovereignty under the pretext of global management of pandemics. The Confederacy is the only political environment in Poland that does not want it," Bosak added.
Criticism of global pandemic management
During the conference, Grzegorz Płaczek highlighted the request for a more sovereign wellness policy. In his opinion, Poland should avoid excessive dependence on decisions of global organisations specified as the WHO.
"The decision of the United States to leave the WHO should be a signal for Poland to reflect on the legitimacy of further membership of this organization," said Płaczek. He besides added that it is essential to strengthen national wellness protection mechanisms and take steps to defend Poland's sovereignty in this area.
WHO under Confederacy’s View
The representatives of the Confederation indicated that the WHO does not always act in the interest of the associate States. According to them, the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the weaknesses of the organisation and the deficiency of coherent strategies, which affected the quality of management of the global wellness crisis.
"The Confederacy, as the only political organization in Poland, opposes the regulation of national sovereignty in the field of public wellness management," said Bosak. Politicians of this formation want to consider the legitimacy of the financing of the WHO from the Polish budget and to make fresh mechanisms for global cooperation in the field of wellness protection.
Will Poland follow the US?
The decision of the United States to retreat from the WHO is an crucial mention point for the Polish debate on membership of this organisation. The Confederation argues that the current model of global cooperation on public wellness requires a thorough improvement and Poland should have more control over its wellness decisions.
What further steps will the government take on this matter? Will Poland consider leaving the WHO? This will surely be the subject of further political and social discussions in the coming months.
