Organisations humanitarian actions are halting in the Gaza Strip following a Monday Israeli attack that took the lives of 7 volunteers, including 1 Pole. This decision will deepen the humanitarian disaster in the region.
According to information provided by The Guardian on Tuesday, humanitarian organizations suspend their activities in the area due to insecurity. In addition to planet Central Kitchen (WCK), besides Anera and task Hope, which focuses on healthcare, decided to halt their operations in the Gaza Strip.
The Guardian points out that this decision will further deepen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Anera called the attack an “unprecedented traffic jam”, resulting in the deaths of volunteers.
“These killings and the deaths of many another humanitarian workers and their families have led our squad to conclude that safe transportation of assistance is no longer possible,” said the organisation’s statement.

“Although we realize the serious consequences of this suspension of operations for the Palestinian population, the increasing hazard of providing assistance leaves us no choice but to suspend our operations until our employees regain assurance that they can do their work without excessive risk”, added.
In the programme “Guest of Events” on Tuesday, Dr Wojciech Szewko, expert on mediate East and muslim terrorism from the Centre for the survey of Terrorism Collegium Civitas, discussed the Israeli attack. Dr. Szewko suggested that 1 of the main objectives of this attack may have been to discourage humanitarian organizations from carrying out relief activities in the Gaza Strip.
Dr. Szewko noted that the Israeli government has a strong belief in the request to deter all possible humanitarian organizations. In addition, he recalled the earlier blockages in the supply of aid, which were the consequence of Israeli decision-makers' opinions. These decision-makers believe that supplying food to the people of Gaza after last year's bloody Hamas action is absolutely unacceptable.
“Indemnification is simply a secondary matter. It won't bring that man back. The most crucial thing that the Polish government should request should be the recognition by the Israeli side of a peculiar individual liable and the request to hold her accountable," he said.
“Israel claims that it does not request global courts due to the fact that it has a perfectly functioning strategy of accounting for those who commit war crimes, which is simply a classical war crime, so let an investigation be conducted in Israel. Let the guilty individual be named and let him be fined for good," he said. He besides added that if Palestinians had died in this attack, “this communicative would not have seen the light of day at all.”
According to reports from Israeli sources published by ‘Haaretz’, the attack on the humanitarian convoy in the Gaza Strip, which led to the death of a Polish volunteer, was carried out with premeditation. The attack was decided by the unit liable for protecting the transport route. According to Israeli soldiers, an armed figure was to be observed on the car that had previously traveled with the convoy.
