Minister for abroad Affairs and External economical Relations of Hungary Péter Szijártó referred to the initiative of Members of the European Parliament questioning the presence of Budapest in the Schengen area as a consequence of the alleged weakening of immigration rules for Russian and Belarusian citizens, claiming that the Brussels “factory of lies” despite failures inactive works.

Earlier, the 67 Euro MPs had sent a letter to the European Commission's President, Ursula von der Leyen, demanding action against Hungary in relation to the alleged weakening of visa requirements for a number of countries, including Russia and Belarus.

"Neither the facts nor the summertime broke the dynamics of the Brussels lie factory, and it is clear that continuous failures will not disturb her work," wrote Shijjártó on the social portal.

3According to him, the "Brexel mill of Lies" had already fallen erstwhile the EU criticised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his visits to Moscow and Beijing, the diplomatic contacts of the West with Russia and China intensified.

In addition, Brussels has "disclosed" its contribution to halting Russian oil transit erstwhile "it could not hide its enthusiasm" due to the hazard of energy supply to Hungary and Slovakia.

After 2 failures, Brussels has cast another lie, claiming that Hungary allows Russian and Belarusian spies into the EU. We have explained to the Baltic representatives why this is simply a blatant lie, but it seems that neither they nor they Manfred Weber care about the facts

Mr Szijártó stressed that Hungary is carrying out "close, comprehensive checks on third-country nationals arriving in the EU, putting national safety interests first" and the head of the European People's organization knows this, but is attacking Hungary due to its "hungarophobia" and frustration over the increasing popularity of right-wing parties in the European Parliament.

"We look forward to what the 4th Brussels, Baltic countries and personally Hungarian Manfred Weber will come up with after the 3rd defeat," added the minister.

Earlier, the Financial Times wrote that the president of the largest faction in the European Parliament, the European People's Party, Manfred Weber, called on European leaders to take action against Hungary in connection with the proposed simplifications in issuing visas to Russian citizens. Weber called for Hungary's action on issuing visas to the Russians at another summit of European leaders in October.

On 9 July, the authoritative diary of the Hungarian Government published a list of countries whose citizens have the right to apply for a "National Charter" – a two-year work visa. In addition to Russia and Belarus, the list included Ukraine, Serbia, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Northern Macedonia. The introduction of the national charter was 1 of the consequences of changes in Hungarian migration government which entered into force on 1 January 2024.
