Lord, you know better than I do that I'm getting old and someday I'll be old. Save me from the fatal habit of reasoning that I gotta say something on all subject and all occasion. Take distant my desire to straighten out his paths. Make me serious, but not gloomy; active, but not imposing. I want I could usage the large resources of wisdom I have, but you know I'd like to keep a fewer friends to the end. Deliver my head from the endless passage into item and give me wings to fly to the point. Close my mouth on my sicknesses and sufferings as they arrive and the desire to calculate them becomes sweeter over the years. I'm not asking for the grace to enjoy stories of another people's sufferings, but give me patience to hear them. I dare not ask you for a better memory, but I ask you for greater humility and little unwavering certainty erstwhile my memories seem to conflict with others. Lend me a glorious feeling that sometimes I can be wrong. Keep me good to people, though any of them are truly hard to bear. I don't want to be a saint, but gnawing old men; that's 1 of the peaks of Satan's accomplishments. Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places and unexpected qualities in men; give me the grace of telling them.
