The Commission was established in 2023 under the Law and Justice. The current ruling coalition inactive last November cancelled its members.

The Act on the establishment of the State Commission for the survey of Russian Influences on the interior safety of the Republic of Poland from 2007 to 2022 was adopted by the Sejm on 14 April 2023. In accordance with its rules, the committee is to conduct proceedings to explain cases of "public officials or elder management members who, under Russian influence, acted against the interests of the Polish Republic from 2007 to 2020". On August 30, the Sejm appointed 9 members of this commission and its president was the historian and then head of the Military Historical Bureau Sławomir Cenckiewicz.

On July 24th, the Sejm passed a bill – prepared by Polish Members2050 – repealing the bill on the committee. 259 MPs voted, 184 against, no 1 abstained – the liquidation of the committee was supported by KO clubs, Poland 2050, PSL, Left and Confederacy. The decision of the Sejm was then backed by – 31 July – the legislature and the bill went to the president's desk.
The President, inter alia, stated that "no another public entity in Poland has the tasks assigned to it, as indicated in the Act on the basis of which the Commission operates". ‘In contrast to the peculiar services, the Commission shall, as a general rule, act openly. Thus, the Sejm, erstwhile calling on the Commission, filled an crucial gap in the state safety system," he noted.
A fresh committee on the examination of Russian and Belarusian influences between 2004 and 2024 was set up in May 2024. It was headed by the head of the SKW General Jarosław Guardian. This committee was appointed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
