NEW DELHI– A SpiceJet (SG) flight, SG9046, traveling from Jaipur (JAI) to Chennai (MAA) executed an emergency landing after experiencing a tyre burst during its approach. The pilot detected the problem before landing and immediately notified airport authorities, who implemented emergency procedures.
Upon examination, officials discovered damage to wheel number 2 of the aircraft. All passengers and crew members disembarked safely without incident.

SpiceJet Flight Emergency Landing
The incident occurred as the flight approached the Chennai airport (MAA). The pilot detected the tyre issue before landing and immediately alerted airport authorities, who activated emergency response procedures. Airport officials confirmed that wheel number 2 sustained damage, with tyre fragments visibly protruding from the left interior section.
According to officials, all passengers and crew members disembarked safely from the aircraft without any injuries or complications following the emergency landing.
Jaipur’s Air Traffic Control notified the SpiceJet (SG) flight crew about tyre debris discovered on the runway. After assessing that all other aircraft systems and parameters were functioning normally, the crew decided to proceed to Chennai (MAA).
Upon arrival, authorities implemented precautionary landing procedures. The aircraft landed without incident using standard braking techniques. A subsequent inspection revealed that the second main wheel tyre was missing one tread layer, though no additional damage was detected on the aircraft.
A representative from SpiceJet (SG) acknowledged the incident and confirmed that the flight experienced no other complications, as reported by ANI.

Similar Tyre Burst Incidents
IndiGo ATR (2021)
An IndiGo (6E) ATR 72-600 aircraft operating as flight 6E7979 from Kannur (CNN) to Hubbali (HBX) experienced a tyre burst while attempting to land for the second time at Hubbali airport (HBX) in Karnataka.
Strong crosswinds forced the crew to abort their initial landing attempt after briefly touching down, leading to a go-around. During the subsequent landing attempt, the tire burst happened. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed during the incident, and the aircraft was under maintenance later on.
SpiceJet Flight (2023)
A SpiceJet (SG) Boeing 737 aircraft experienced a tire burst while landing at Cochin International Airport (COK) during its journey from Dubai (DXB) to Kochi (COK), Kerala.
Despite the incident, all passengers and crew remained unharmed. The landing proceeded smoothly, and all aircraft systems displayed normal operational parameters throughout the arrival sequence.
IndiGo Flight (2024)
IndiGo Airlines (6E) faced a similar emergency when one of its aircraft suffered a tyre burst while landing at Ahmedabad Airport (AMD). The flight, arriving from Bangalore (BLR), required towing to the terminal after coming to a stop on the runway.
No injuries were reported, but the incident caused significant delays to other flights, and it was ultimately grounded.

Safety Measures in Indian Aviation
Airlines conduct rigorous pre-flight and post-flight tyre checks, particularly during extreme weather conditions when rubber components face additional stress.
Aviation experts note that tyre bursts, while concerning, rarely lead to catastrophic outcomes due to aircraft design features that allow planes to land safely even with damaged tyres. Modern aircraft incorporate redundant systems specifically to handle such emergencies.
The DGCA continues to monitor these incidents closely to identify any patterns that might indicate broader maintenance or operational issues requiring industry-wide attention.
