SINGAPORE- Scoot (TR), a low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SQ), launched its inaugural direct flight between Singapore (SIN) and Vienna (VIE) on June 3, 2025, marking the resumption of services between the two capitals after an 18-year hiatus.
The airline partnered with Singaporean musicians Tang Quartet to celebrate the milestone launch with surprise classical performances both onboard and at key locations.

Scoot Inaugural Flight to Vienna
The 9,705-kilometre service operates three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays using Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
- Flight TR710 departs Singapore at 03:00 local time, arriving in Vienna at 09:05 local time.
- The return service TR711 departs the Austrian capital at 11:25 local time, landing back at Changi Airport (SIN) at 04:50 local time the following morning.
Vienna now represents Scoot’s longest route within its network, surpassing Athens, Jeddah, and Sydney. The carrier faces no direct competition on this route, positioning itself as the sole operator between the two capitals.

Musical Celebration Initiative
Scoot collaborated with the Tang Quartet to create memorable experiences connecting passengers to Vienna’s rich musical heritage.
The musicians performed classical pieces during the inaugural flights, including works by renowned composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert.
Passengers aboard the inaugural Vienna flights experienced live performances of classical tunes, including Divertimento 1st Movement, Divertimento 2nd Movement, Liebeslied, and Liebesfreud. The musical programming aimed to introduce travellers to Vienna’s cultural significance as the “City of Music.”

Airport and Ground Performances
Tang Quartet extended their performances beyond the aircraft cabin. Customers travelling from Vienna to Singapore received additional musical entertainment at Vienna International Airport (VIE) and onboard their return flight.
The quartet performed pieces representative of Singapore’s heritage, including Malay folk song “Rasa Sayang”, classic Mandarin pop love ballad “月亮代表我的心” (The Moon Represents My Heart), and a composition by local composer Low Shao Ying titled “A Walk in the Woods.”
The musical partnership concluded with a public performance at Guoco Tower on June 10, 2025. The quartet entertained audiences with classical pieces including Air, Intermezzo, Liebeslied, Liebeslied, and Serenade. The venue also welcomed Austrian snacks to enhance the cultural celebration.

Executive Statements
Chee Keong Ng, Chief Operating Officer at Scoot (TR), emphasised the strategic importance of the new route. He stated that the launch creates a convenient, cost-effective, and high-quality direct connection between Singapore and Vienna, two cities with strong cultural, economic, and tourism potential.
The airline aims to unlock new markets and make air travel between Europe and Asia more accessible for customers.
Julian Jager, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport (VIE), welcomed Scoot’s arrival as a strengthening of Vienna’s role as a bridge between Europe and Asia.
He highlighted Singapore as one of the world’s most innovative aviation hubs and identified the Far East as a key growth market, noting that the new long-haul route opens opportunities for tourism, business, and international partnerships.

Historical Context
Services between Singapore and Vienna were last maintained by Austrian Airlines (OS) in March 2007. Before that, Singapore Airlines (SQ) operated flights to the Austrian capital before discontinuing service in October 2000. Scoot’s year-round service will provide an additional 1,974 seats per week on the market.
Vienna becomes only the second European destination served by Scoot, joining Athens, which receives four weekly flights. The carrier previously served Berlin but discontinued that route. With the Vienna addition, Scoot operates 4,606 weekly seats across its European network.
