On Thursday, the Russian Ministry of abroad Affairs called for the interview of Polish Ambassador Krzysztof Krajewski and informed of the closing of the Polish Consulate General in Irkutsk on 30 December. The Ministry in Moscow stressed that it took this decision in consequence to the actions of the Polish side.
"On 27 November, Polish Ambassador Krzysztof Krajewski was summoned to the Russian Ministry of abroad Affairs, to whom a note was presented with the notification that in consequence to the actions of the Polish authorities, which since 23 December retreat their consent to the operation of the General Consulate of the Russian Federation in Gdańsk, Russian organization decided to retreat the consent to the operation of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Irkutsk“ It is written in a communication from the Russian Ministry of abroad Affairs.
On 19 November, the head of the MFA Radosław Sikorski informed that he had decided to retreat his consent to the operation of the Russian consulate in Gdańsk. The next step is closing embassies, which is equivalent to breaking diplomatic relations.
