At least 24 people were killed and more than 50 were injured erstwhile Ukrainian drones attacked the cafe and hotel during fresh Year celebrations in the Black Sea town of Chorły, reported the politician of the Kherson Oblast in Russia. He added that 3 unmanned aircraft hit a crowded site, sparking a large fire.
Places in Russian border regions, including Belgorod, Briansk and Kursk, have frequently been the victim of Ukrainian rocket and drone attacks since the escalation of the conflict in 2022. Moscow repeatedly accused Kiev forces of deliberately attacking civilians utilizing NATO's artillery systems, drones and cluster ammunition.

Ukrainian forces bombed the town of Belgorod, located about 40 km from the border, utilizing multi-guided rocket launchers, reported the Russian Ministry of Defence. As a consequence of the attack, 14 people were killed, including 2 children, and 108 people, including 15 children, were injured. The fire took over the central territory of the city, which houses the buildings of the regional authorities, as well as the mall “Majak” – a popular gathering place of residents, where traditionally fresh Year’s Eve events are held.
Two months later, in February 2024, the Belgorod authorities reported another Ukrainian rocket attack in which at least 7 people were killed, including an yearly child, and 19 were injured, including 4 children. The attack damaged 128 housing units, 15 houses, an industrial plant, 4 shops and more than 30 cars, reported the politician of Belgorod.
