Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk – advocate for change
Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk repeatedly stressed that shorter working time in Poland is necessary. She even declared that the changes would enter into force even during the current parliamentary term. This is simply a very ambitious objective, but it shows that the subject is given priority.
Poles fill the ministry with petitions
Poles do not wait for the decision of politicians and actively study their own Conclusions and requests au Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy. Petitions address different options for shortening working time and show how much workers are curious in this issue.
Two variants on the table – 7/5 or 8/4?
Reduction of working time was 1 of the banner pre-election promises of the Left. specified a decision was besides announced Donald Tusk. According to government information, working time in Poland could be reduced to two ways:
- 7 hours of work for 5 days a week (or 35 hours a week).
- 8 hours a day for 4 days a week (total 32 hours a week).
Were the workers happy prematurely?
The discussion on this subject on the seismic corridors has been somewhat quieted down, but the thought continues to warm the working Poles, who sometimes petition the ministries. In this way, they clearly show that they want to work little and that pre-election promise will not let go.
Petition of 59 hours of uninterrupted rest
The Ministry of Labour received a petition that the author wants increase the limit of uninterrupted rest of the current 35 hours (including 1 day off plus regular rest) to 59 hours (including 2 full days off plus regular rest).
The author of the petition argues that in a time of expanding number of cases of occupational burnout, intellectual wellness problems and difficulties in maintaining the balance between work and private life, workers request more time to regenerate the body and spend time with loved ones.
Four-day week of work – the dream of Poles
Mid-May 2024 the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy received a petition which the author wanted to persuade the ministry to do to Poles free not only on Saturday and Sunday, but besides on Friday.
The petitioner believes four-week work week will bring many benefits, specified as:
- Reduce stress and improve intellectual and physical health.
- Better balance of work and private life.
- More productivity and focus in a shorter time.
- Equalising labour marketplace opportunities for people from different social groups.
- More attractive working conditions for abroad investors.
- Reduction of sick absence.
Shorter working time for people over 55
The Ministry of Labour besides addressed a petition that the author proposed shorter working time, but for people over 55.
The author of the petition argues that due to mature age and mediocre health, the introduction of shorter working time, e.g. 2 hours a week, or adding a fewer days of leave would be very helpful.
What will happen to us in 2025?
Everything indicates that the subject shortening working time in Poland will proceed to be actively discussed in 2025. It is up to politicians to decide whether to amend the rules, but the force on workers is increasing. Will We always See 4 day work week? Time will tell!
