The Doha-based carrier enforces meticulous grooming guidelines covering everything from makeup application to hairstyling, with dedicated training provided by specialized grooming officers.

Qatar Airways’ exacting appearance requirements stand in contrast to the evolving standards across the global aviation industry.
While many Western airlines have relaxed their guidelines—allowing female crew to wear pants instead of skirts or minimal makeup—Qatar maintains traditional expectations to uphold its premium brand identity, Business Insider highlighted.
These strict regulations haven’t deterred applicants. According to airline representatives, only 6-8% of tens of thousands of candidates successfully secure positions as Qatar Airways cabin crew members.
This selectivity contributes to the airline’s consistent recognition as one of the world’s best carriers as of 2025.

Female flight attendants must follow specific makeup protocols, including:
- “Full coverage” foundation and concealer
- Black mascara (not “too clumpy”)
- Matte or sheen blush (no glitter allowed)
- Lipstick in deep pink, deep red, or burgundy tones
- Matching nail polish options (including nude, clear, or French manicure)
The burgundy color palette directly ties to Qatar Airways’ branded aesthetic. During training sessions, grooming officers recommend long-lasting concealers described as “bulletproof” and emphasize proper makeup setting techniques to maintain appearance throughout long-haul flights.
Male crew members face equally detailed guidelines:
- Properly styled hair using grooming wax or clay for a neat, smooth look
- No “over-gelled” or “wet look” effects
- Mustaches allowed but strictly maintained (no growth over upper lip or below lip line)
- No beards permitted
- Clean-shaven face required (no stubble or “5 o’clock shadow”)
- Gray hair is reportedly not allowed
- Bald spots must be covered

- Standard-issue skirts, pants, blazers, and plain socks (no logos or designs)
