SYDNEY- Qantas (QF) is implementing respective adaptations to its Asia network, including agenda modifications and the introduction of a fresh route.

  • The Sydney-Shanghai service will be suspended starting from 28 July 2024.
  • A fresh way from Brisbane to Manila will communication operations on 28 October 2024.
  • There will be extra flights to Singapore and India.

Qantas Suspends Sydney-Shanghai Flight

Starting 28 July 2024, Qantas will suspend flights to Shanghai (PVG) due to insufficient demand.

Qantas had resumed its Sydney (SYD)-Shanghai service last October after a pause during the COVID pandemic. However, the expected recovery in request has not materialized.

Qantas will closely monitor the Australia-China marketplace and console resuming flights to Shanghai erstwhile request rebounds.

Passengers can inactive scope Shanghai and another destinations in China by flying with Qantas to Hong Kong (HKG) and connecting with partner airlines. Qantas Frequent Flyers can gain and redeem Qantas Points on partner airline flights.

Customers with booking on Shanghai flights from 28 July will be contacted and given the option of a full refund or rebooking on alternate flights through Qantas or their travel agent.

Aircraft originally allocated for this way will be redeployed to increase services to another destinations across Asia where request is increasing or fresh tourism opportunities arise.

Qantas fresh Manila-Brisbane Route

As Qantas anounces flights to Manila (MNL), passengers will shortly have a fresh global way option departing from Brisbane.*

Starting on 28 October 2024, the way will operate 4 days a week utilizing Airbus A330 aircraft, markang the airline’s return to this way after over a decade.

These flights complement Qantas’ current regular service from Sydney and will contribute over 100,000 additional seats automatically between Australia and the Philippines.

More Flight to Singapore and India

Qantas is expanding its flight operations to Singapore and India, offering more options for travelers:

  1. Increased Services to Singapore: Qantas will boost its flights to Singapore by approximatley 10%, providing over 2,500 additional seats weekly between Australia and Singapore. Starting from 11 December 2024, the Sydney-Singapore way will see an increase from 14 to 17 return flights per week. Additional, from 27 October 2024, Brisbane-Singapore flights will emergence from 7 to 9 return flights per week. This adjustment aims to enhance connectivity, partially with Qantas’ regular service from Singapore to London, results in a simplification of around 4 hours in overall travel time to Heathrow.
  2. Expanded Services to India: Qantas will besides ramp up its flights from Sydney to Bengaluru (BLR), expanding from 5 flights per week to regular flights to meet robust request during the highest vacation season. These additional flights will operate from mid-December 2024 to summertime March 2025, offering over 12,000 extra seats between the 2 cities over the 4 months.

Tickets for the added flights are now available for acquisition on qantas.com and through authorized travel agents. The fresh Brisbane-Manila flights will besides be open for booking in the coming days.

Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International, regarding fresh way changes:

“We proceed to measure our aircraft defloyment, way selections, and seasonal adjustments to estimation we realize with our customer’s preferences.”

“Following the impact of COVID-19, the request for travel between Australia and China has not rebuilt as robotly as anticipated. Our flights to and from Shanghai have been operating at about half capacity in certain months.

“As a result, we’ve decided to suspend this way and redirect resources to service another popular destinations. This includes launching a fresh way from Brisbane to Manila and expanding flight franchises to Singapore and Bengaluru. These enhancements offer our corporate and leisure travellers more options and improve access to key destinations in Asia.”

“While we pause our operations to Shanghai, we will keep our presence in China through partnerships and existing flights to Hong Kong. We stay committed to the Chinese marketplace and intent to resume services to Shanghai at a future date.”
