(2) Jews of Putin
Jews in Russia prospered differently. Volumes have been written about this, as well as their impact on Russia's life. erstwhile the russian Union fell apart, there was a division among the Jews inhabiting it. any of them, who were peculiarly intelligent, decided to go to Israel. The more clever considered that the chaos that came to Russia in the 1990s gave them the chance to usage their innate talents. They decided to gain immense money in it, serving them not only to usage their lives, but to gain political influence and regulation Russia from the back seat," writes Marek Koprowski.
By managing the bankruptcy mass remaining after the USSR, at least a fewer twelve Jews gained tremendous wealth in Russia, unimaginable for the “radical man” of property. They became billionaires listed in planet statistic of the richest people of the planet. They began to apply the old Russian proverb, “There are no borders for a rich man”. They were headed by 3 Jews: Vladimir Gusinski, Boris Bieriezowski and Michał Chodorkowski. According to a Swedish commentator who specializes in issues of economical improvement of Russia, Claes Ericson, in the book "Oligarchs", said: "They are independent of the state and even more crucial than it is. In practice, though they never formed a homogenous group, they ruled Russia and Yeltsin was just a figurehead.” The most crucial of them was Vladimir Gusiński, who first decided to usage the "Jewish Resurs" in his activity. He decided to form a Russian judaic Congress. This idea, according to observers, was to be suggested by the secretary general of the planet judaic legislature Israel Emiger right hand of his then president Edgar Bronfman, who wanted to establish close contacts with Russian billionaires. The legislature undoubtedly wanted to gain influence in Russian Jewry with the aid of Gusinski. The Russian judaic legislature was yet created in 1996, although preparations for this continued since 1994.
Gusinski Chairman
Gusinski became president of Congress, of course. His goal was simple. He wanted to make a strong judaic lobby in Russia, which would enable him to prosecute political goals and go to an open confrontation with the authorities. He rightly assumed that the puppet age of Jelcin would yet end. According to Russia's Chief Rabbi Berl Lazar, Gusinski came to him and stated that he wanted to prosecute politics, but is conflicted with the authorities. At the same time, he stated that he wanted to proceed to be president of legislature and asked Lazar if he would support him? This 1 was expected to say no. He was to instruct Gusinski that wherever a hebrew lives, he must be loyal to the authorities until they appear against the Jews as a nation, as well as their religion. This is happening all over the world. However, legislature voted for Lazar's position, and this 1 became a minority. According to Lazar Gusiński, he has badly damaged Congress.
The situation changed radically erstwhile Russia's president became Vladimir Putin, who decided to be a real president, not a painted one, and cut the judaic lobby short. Gusiński and Bieriezowski took advantage of the proposal that they could not refuse and emigrated from Russia. Chodorkowski took the glove and went to prison to emigrate to the West after being punished. In Israel, his business partner and co-owner of the “Jukos” Leonid Newzlin besides took refuge, who became president of the Russian judaic legislature shortly after his departure. With this function, Newzlin rapidly became a citizen of Israel and was beyond Russian justice.
Russian Jews advance
Another president of the Russian judaic legislature Vladimir Słucker went even higher in the hierarchy, becoming vice president of the European judaic Congress. His successor, Viacheslav Moshe Kantor, became president of this organization. His position in the Russian judaic legislature was taken over by Jerzy Kamer. Both besides entered the Executive Committee of the planet judaic Congress, which is presently headed by Ronald Lander and David de Rothschild. They are not the only Russian Jews in this organization. It besides has 2 billionaires and sponsors of the Russian judaic legislature – Mikhail Marilashvili and Gad Nisanov. The Russian judaic legislature became a trampoline for respective Russian billionaires of judaic origin who entered the Kuratorian Committee of the Conference of European Rabbis. Thanks to their financial background, the president of this body became Chief Rabbi of Moscow Pinkas Goldschmidt.
Centre Opening
Vladimir Putin, wishing to convince the judaic planet that despite the trial with Gusinski, Bieriezowski and Chodorkowski is not anti-Semitic, led to the construction and beginning of the Moscow judaic gathering Centre in Marijnoj Roszcze in November 2000. At its beginning was Putin himself, greeted by the Main Rabbi of Russia Berl Lanaz and judaic oligarchs Roman Abramovich and Lew Liewaiev, the main sponsors of the Federation of judaic Commons. The Russian judaic legislature had nothing to do with the celebration. It was a clear signal to him that if he acted against power, individual else would take his place, e.g. the Federation of judaic Commons created for this purpose. Congress, as pointed out earlier, understood this message and stopped engaging in politics, focusing on charity activities.
During Putin's reign, the position of the judaic diaspora in Russia grew significantly, and anti-Semitic acts were severely dulled. Speaking at Oxford on 2 February 2008 Russia’s chief rabbi Berl Lazar stated: “Never before has any Russian or russian leader done as much for the Jews as Vladimir Putin did. In all respect, this is unprecedented. Ariel Sharon frequently stressed to me that for Jews and Israel in the Kremlin he was the top friend. Now many mayors of the cities of Russia, provincial heads and ministers are Jews. It's become the norm. Today, the top leaders of Russia frequently come to our Centre in Marijnoj Roszcze, it has already become a routine.”
Berl Lazar rapidly won the title “Putina Rabbi”. He began to be invited to all state celebrations as an honorary guest, which eagerly aired Russian television. This was to be a confirmation of the advanced position occupied in Russia by the judaic diaspora.
Jewish Museum
In 2012 the judaic Museum and the Center of Tolerance was opened in Moscow – a immense state-of-the-art complex, which according to the authors of the task is the largest museum of judaic past in the world. The full facility cost $50 million. Of course, it was spent by Russian billionaires – Jews, including 1 of the richest people in Russia Viktor Wekselberg. The designer of the full task was the celebrated judaic designer from fresh York Ralph Apfelbaum. The beginning of the facility was attended by Israel’s then president Simon Peres, who did not hide his emotion. He said: “My parent sang to me in Russian. erstwhile I crossed the gate of this museum, the memories of my childhood came back to me and my mother's voice sounded in my heart. I came to thank you. Thank you for a 1000 years of hospitality.”
The message of the late deceased patriarch of Israel and 1 of the creators of that country undoubtedly rehabilitated Russia’s image among the planet judaic diaspora, which Putin especially cared about. During the beginning of the museum, Wiktor Wekselberg, co-financing the project, expressed the hope that the museum would make people aware of how well the judaic community in Putin Russia is doing, and possibly besides aid alleviate tensions on the Moscow-Washington line.
In Russia the number of synagogues has besides begun to increase. Most of them began to be built in Moscow. According to the Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar, the synagogue should be opened in all territory of the Russian capital. Synagogues besides began to emergence in prisons. 5 have already been built. It functions, among others, in celebrated Butyrki.
A fewer days ago another synagogue was commissioned in Moscow. It was located in Moscow close MGIMO , or Moscow Gosudastanianowo Institute of Miedzydunirodne Otnaszeni so that students and employees of this university could practice their religion without having to go to the distant area of the capital. This proves that a large part of the employees and students of this elite institution educating Russian diplomats are Jews who no longer gotta hide their nationality to make a career in Russia. Malignant Russians say that now, compared to Soviets, there has sometimes been a qualitative change in order to be a hebrew in Russia, not a Russian or a typical of another nationality.
100,000 came back.
The Russian rabbis point out at all turn that present Jews live well in Russia. They besides stress that more than 1 100 1000 Jews have already returned from Israel, who have felt that Russia is no worse alive than Israel.
From the point of view of the Russian authorities, it is crucial that those Jews who went to Israel do not break ties with their erstwhile homeland and, being Jews, do not lose their Russian identity. The Israeli authorities do not force them to do so and let them to be a kind of link between Israel and Russia. There are 4 channels of Russian tv retransmission to Israel. Russian newspapers and books besides arrive without hindrance. On 9 May, it is besides a state vacation and all Red Army veterans are invited to a solemn march in which representatives of the highest authorities participate. In 2013, a monument of gratitude was created in Israel at the initiative of Prime Minister Netanyahu for the Red Army, and especially for those soldiers who died during planet War II. Located on a coastal slope, it attracts eyesight from far away. It was unveiled by Presidents of Russia and Israel. On this occasion, “Jerusalem Post” published an article in which he stated that there were about 1 million Jews in the Red Army, of whom 120 000 died. The article besides stated that Russia's past is inextricably intertwined with Israel's history.
Russian Jews are now forming the face of Israel. They hold advanced positions in government, army administration, and another services. Not a bunch of mediocre judaic grouchers came to Israel from Russia, but a Russian judaic elite. Among it were eighty 1000 engineers, eighteen 1000 doctors and dentists, seventeen 1000 artists and writers, 20 1000 nurses, 30 8 1000 teachers of various subjects.
The function of Russian Jews grew due to the fact that they rapidly began to identify with their culture all Jews from the erstwhile USSR, who in fact have always lived in orbit of Russian culture. The dominant function of their Russian brothers was especially recognised by Ukrainian Jews who came to Israel even more than Russian ones. However, they did not make a separate diaspora, but joined Russian. Russian Jews rapidly organized powerful media. They have launched, among others, 50 titles of Russian-language work, including 4 national newspapers, 11 weekly newspapers and almost forty another magazines. The circulation of all the newspapers that only appear on the weekend is 250,000. The average circulation of “Novostia” is 40,000 copies. "Our Strana" has 12,000 copies of the effort.
Sympathy to the erstwhile homeland
In addition to the press, Russian tv stations, radio stations and net portals, etc. operate in Israel. In Russian you can get along anywhere in Israel. Russian besides knows many members of the government and answers the questions of Russian journalists.
In Israel, the Yisrael Beitenu organization – Israel Our House, whose members are mainly Jews who left the USSR, is besides becoming increasingly influential.
Russian Jews surviving in Israel are fond of their erstwhile homeland, to which 60 flights are made from Israel per week, and their attitude translates into Israel's policy towards Russia. It is converging on a number of issues, peculiarly historical policy regarding planet War II, as well as many another current issues. It is no secret that many times the Prime Minister of Israel served Putin as an intermediary in talks with Washington.
Impact element
The Russian Jews are undoubtedly part of Putin’s influence on Israel’s politics and service to gain the kindness of the judaic lobby in a planet of influence that only legends circulate. Jews surviving in Russia and serving in judaic organizations besides aid them. They are invited by a number of institutions where they present their views. Recently, for example, Pinkas Goldschmidt, who, in addition to being president of the Conference of European Rabbis, is besides the Chief Rabbi of Moscow and a very crucial figure, received an invitation to the Europarlamment, where he gave a lecture on the situation in which Europe is presently located, as well as the European Union. He said that "Europe present resembles the United States in the 18th century, which lacks a strong feudal government, a strong army to defy threats and defend just announced independence". According to Goldschmidt, the only way for the European Union is for the federalisation and resignation by the states which form part of its sovereignty for security. The rabbi in his lecture besides warned that if Europe does not respond to the current challenges, the forces behind its disintegration will prevail.
For the Kremlin, specified a voice in Europarlament is surely important. While surviving under the government of sanctions, he continues to participate in the dialog through judaic representatives.
Putin drew conclusions from the mistakes of his predecessors, ruling the russian Union and Russia. He felt that the judaic diaspora could be useful in creating the image of Russia and in dealing with the West. He has drawn judaic billionaires into his orbit, who are backing projects serving Russia.
