The Church, in the words of Pope Francis and Pope Leon, has repeatedly described what is happening in the Gaza Strip, as well as in another parts of the world, as a disgrace, and in the case of Gaza, as a real massacre. The president of the Spanish Bishop's Conference Archbishop Luis Argüello recalled this at the margins of yesterday's inauguration of the academic year at the Pontifical University of Salamanca.
Archbishop Valladolid stated that the legal qualification of genocide belongs to global tribunals, but called for “not to hide behind words”. He pointed out that "what is happening in Gaza, Sudan or Haiti requires disapproval of the full society".
He added that this opposition must lead to "moral pressure", and in the case of believers "also to prayer and all that can be done to contribute to peace."
