The Rector Major of the Brotherhood of St Pius X, Fr Davide Pagliani, referred to the gathering with Cardinal Victor Fernández, Prefect of the Dicastery of religion Science. He revealed interesting details and announced that he would shortly announce the decision on further action.
The gathering took place in Vatican City on 12 February. The Holy See issued a communication after it, indicating that the Brotherhood is being offered a theological dialog on spiritual diversity and texts of the Second Vatican Council. The Vatican pointed out that possible ordination without the pope's approval would be punished with excommunication, which is expected to mean schism.
The French-language FSSPX website later featured a separate, own message from the Brotherhood. Everything that the Vatican wrote was confirmed – adding a fewer details.
Well, Fr Davide Pagliani was to propose that he would proceed his work in the current exceptional and temporary situation. In another words, Rev. Pagliani seemed to have asked to tolerate the unregulated position of the Canon Brotherhood.
Furthermore, the Brotherhood stated that Cardinal Fernández, in an interview with Fr Pagliarani, stated that dialog on the Second Vatican Council was possible, but that "his texts cannot be corrected". This means rejecting 1 of the essential demands of the FSSPX, which believes that any council texts contain errors.
Fr Davide Pagliani is about to address the Vatican's proposal to quit self-ordination and to establish a theological dialogue. The decision of the Brotherhood in this respect will be made public.
