The prosecutor, who is investigating the Justice Fund affair, has charged Father Michael O., reports the TVN24 portal. On Tuesday morning, ABW agents arrested priest Michał O. from the Order of Sercan Priests, who is the leader of the Profeto Foundation, the main beneficiary of the Justice Fund during the word of minister Zbigniew Ziobro.
The organization was to receive almost PLN 100 million from the Justice Fund for the construction of the large "Archipelago – islands free of violence" complex in Wilanów.
In addition to Father O., 3 officials of the ministry liable for signing the fund were detained. The decision to arrest and search was made by a peculiar investigation squad at the National Prosecutor's Office, appointed at the beginning of this year by Adam Bodnar, lawyer General. The investigation aims to analyse grants from the Justice Fund, including the acquisition of Pegasus software, funded from this origin in 2017.
An investigation into alleged abuse of powers was initiated on 19 February. As a result, the ABW searched 25 locations on Tuesday for documents, including the homes of erstwhile Deputy Minister of Justice: Michał Woś and Marcin Romanowski (who oversaw the fund) and Zbigniew Ziobra – in their absence.

Controversies around the Justice Fund are many
The Justice Fund, besides known as the Fund for Damaged Aid and Postpenitentiary Assistance, was created in 2012 and constitutes a state-owned special-purpose fund subject to the Minister of Justice. It is mainly powered by attachments imposed by courts on convicts and by deductions from the salaries of prisoners who work during punishment. This appropriation was intended to cover assistance to victims and witnesses, anti-crime measures and assistance to the deprived.
In 2017, an open catalogue of the Fund's tasks was established as a consequence of the amendment of the Implementing Criminal Code and the Minister of Justice's regulation.
In 2021, the ultimate Audit Board assessed that the financial management of the Justice Fund was incompatible with the basic principles of public finances, specified as transparency and the intent and savings of expenditure. NIK stated that the actions of the Minister of Justice (as the fund's trustee) and many beneficiaries of grant agreements led to waste and untargeted usage of public funds and encouraged the creation of corruption-friendly mechanisms.
