Professor Hanna-Barbara Gerl-Falkovitz became an honorary doctor at John Paul II Pontifical University in Krakow, an outstanding Catholic philosopher.
The German student knows the thought of Romano Guardini, besides close to Pope Benedict XVI. To this giant philosophical and theological thought, and at the same time an excellent expert in Catholic liturgy, she dedicated respective of her books. She besides dealt with criticism of the revolutionary process, publishing many essays on the doctrine of religion.
In fresh years she has participated in discussions on reforms in the Catholic Church in Germany. In 2023, she decided to quit participation in the Synodal Way together with 3 another participants in the process, which sparked many reactions—critical from the progressive, commendable side of the conservative.
During the ceremony of presenting honorary doctorate at UPJPII in Krakow, many prominent representatives of the church or academic planet were present, headed by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz. Representatives of another universities besides appeared, including Dr Jacek Poznański from the Institute of doctrine of Ignatianum in Krakow, Fr Prof. Janusz Bujak from the Higher spiritual Seminary in Koszalin or Prof. Zbigniew Stavrowski from the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński in Warsaw.
The beginning of the ceremony was done by the Rector of the university, Fr. He emphasized the merits of prof. Hanna-Barbary Gerl-Falkovitz in the field of phenomenology and sex anthropology. He pointed out the link between these investigation issues and the interest of Pope John Paul II.
Professor Jarosław Jagiełło presented the laudation in honor of German, pointing to the unbreakable service of fact in life awarded honoris causa doctorate.
Prof. Hanna-Barbara Gerl-Falkovitz herself spoke in a lecture about the relation between religion and reason in a symbolic form of tension and dialog between Jerusalem and Athens. She appealed profusely to Joseph Ratzinger's work.
