The Tusk government defended him for weeks and it was after he proposed discussions on “the return of cultural goods by Poland to Germany”, that the Berlin conference on the works of art robbed by the Germans was cancelled and that the substance of reparations for Poland from Germany “is closed”. Despite taking actions that were openly contrary to the Polish national interest, they kept him in office as much as they could.

An amazing band of embarrassment, both from Prof. Ruchniewicz and the full government. It was only to announce these issues and a gigantic wave of criticism from many sides that caused them to crack and let go of the defence of this embarrassing person.
May the next president not disgrace his actions of the Institute, whose patron is our Polish hero and will represent Polish interests, not German ones. But I realize that this government is highly unlikely.
