Revolutionary Amendments to the Regulations – What Do We Know?
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Stanisław Bukowic, announced that the draft of changes to the driving licence is already ready. Under the fresh rules, persons aged 17 will be able to get a driving licence subject to certain requirements. These are the key changes:
- Age to get the Law of Driving: A young driver will be able to get a driving licence at the age of 17, nevertheless he will gotta drive under the care of an adult with a valid driving licence until he is 18.
- Parents' consent: In order to proceed to the driving licence course, parents' consent will be required.
- Age and method restrictions: The driving licence will cover categories B, C and C1, but 17-year-old drivers will not be able to drive vehicles with an engine power exceeding 70 kW.
- Security: Young drivers will be required to comply with the absolute ban on driving under the influence of alcohol (0 promili), as opposed to adult drivers for whom the limit is 0.2 promila.
What Rules Were Before?
In the 1990s Poland had the anticipation to get a driving licence before the age of 18, but the strategy was abolished. The current task aims not only to reconstruct this option, but besides to introduce additional precautions to increase the safety of young drivers on the roads.
Comparison with another countries
The introduction of the anticipation of obtaining a driving licence before the age of 18 will bring Poland closer to the standards in force in another European countries. For example:
- Hungary: Young drivers can get a driving licence at the age of 17.
- United Kingdom and Germany: The rules let you to get a driving licence before you are 18, although with different requirements and restrictions.
