The Hungarian Minister for abroad Affairs and External economical Relations Péter Szijártó responded to the criticism of Warsaw, saying that Polish diplomacy drowns in a swamp of lies and repeated "1001 times" that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbsn represented his country, not the EU, during his travels to Russia and China.

Earlier, Polish Deputy Minister of abroad Affairs Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski said that Orban is on the outskirts of global society – both in the EU and NATO – and advised him to leave these organizations and to enter into an alliance with Russia.

“We appreciate Polish diplomacy, so it is sad to see it sink into a swamp of lies. So let us repeat 1001: during the peacekeeping mission Prime Minister Viktor Orban represented Hungary, not the EU. possibly now we understand” – wrote Szijjártó on Facebook.

He besides said that "it is not very reasonable" to talk about the isolation of "the prime minister and government, which is presently the only 1 in Europe capable of maintaining contacts with both East and West at the same time".

Orban arrived in Moscow with a delegation on 5 July and met Russian president Vladimir Putin. A visit to Moscow called the next phase of the peace mission, which began with a journey to Kiev on July 2. Later, he went to Beijing, where he said that Hungary was opposed to confronting China and advocated EU-China cooperation. After Beijing, the Hungarian Prime Minister went to Washington for the NATO summit, on the margins of which he met Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He then held talks with erstwhile U.S. president Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

After a visit to China, Orbán said that the resolution of the crisis in Ukraine belongs to the parties to the conflict, but the USA, China and the EU have a decisive influence on its ending. The Hungarian Prime Minister then presented to all EU leaders his plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, based on a realistic assessment of the situation, realistic objectives and deadlines. Orban published a 10-point study to the Head of the European Council Charles Michel on his travels.

Russian President's spokesperson Dmitri Pieskov said Orban showed his political will for dialogue, and Moscow considered it very affirmative and useful. The head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell said that Orban does not represent the EU internationally and there is no European mandate to visit the Russian Federation, despite the six-month presidency of his country in the EU Council. Orban responded to Borrell's criticism, saying that the efforts to establish peace in Ukraine have not been successful due to the “pleasures of Brussels bureaucrats”.
