In the first 2 months of 2025 Police have seen crucial improvements in human resources. The number of officers leaving the service more than doubled compared to the same period of the erstwhile year, while the number of recently admitted uniforms increased. Does this mean that the long-awaited reconstruction of police numbers is yet gaining momentum?
Falling distant by more than half – the first successes of reforms?
According to the Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA), in January and February 2025, 2041 officers left the service. This is importantly little than in the same period of 2024, erstwhile 4121 policemen left. A fall of more than half is peculiarly important, given that January and February are traditionally months in which resignations are most common due to pension and taxation regulations.
Historical data confirm the scale of this change. In the first 4th of 2023 the police left as many as 7959 uniforms, while in the same period of 2022 it was 2646 people. The current downward trend may show the effectiveness of the activities undertaken by the Ministry of abroad Affairs to keep staff in formation.
Record increase in recruitment – Police increasingly attractive?
In addition to the falling number of departures, a key origin is the increase in the number of recently admitted officers. In January and February 2025, 1022 fresh uniforms joined the Police, while only 54 of them had been in the erstwhile year. It's an awesome growth that can bring about improvements in human resources.
According to the March 1, 2025 data, 96,237 policemen remained in the service, with a planned number of jobs of 110,709. This means that vacancyes represent 13.07 percent, and 14 472 officers are missing throughout the country. By comparison, the police counted 92,647 uniforms a year earlier in March.
The biggest staff shortages – where are the police missing?
Despite the improvement of the situation, garrisons inactive exist, in which staff shortages are peculiarly severe. The biggest deficiencies were recorded in the capital garrison, where 2.6 1000 officers were missing, which represents over 26% of the staff status. More than 10% shortages besides happen in the Lower Silesian garrison (15.87 percent), Lubuskie (12.46 percent), Pomeranian (12.23 percent), Łódź (12.02 percent), Silesian (11.71 percent), Warmian-Masurian (11.49 percent) and West Pomeranian (10.91 percent).
Growing interest in service – is this the consequence of fresh benefits?
Police besides note an expanding interest in service. According to the Police Headquarters, in 3 years the number of applications for admission to the formation increased by 72% – from 13 358 in 2022 to 22 937 in 2024. Only in the first 2 months of 2025 there was an increase in the number of applications submitted by 81 percent compared to the same period of 2024.
"The systematic increase in the number of candidates shows that the police service is becoming increasingly attractive," the Police office emphasises. fresh solutions, specified as housing allowance or equalization of a police officer and soldier's first salary, can aid halt the outflow of human resources. However, in the opinion of representatives of the Ministry and the uniform environment, deeper reforms of the remuneration strategy may be crucial.
What's next with the police staff?
Despite optimistic data, it is not certain whether the current HR policy of the Ministry of abroad Affairs will lead to lasting improvement. In the coming months, intensive discussions are planned on the improvement of the remuneration system, and their result may have a decisive impact on the future of the police staff.
"We are able to put on 1 patrol and the gangs of foreigners are getting stronger," the police protestors alarm. This reminds us that despite progress, challenges stay enormous. Can the police rebuild their numbers and effectiveness? Time will tell.
