"First Poland, first Poles" – the president vetoed the law on aid to Ukrainians

Karol Nawrocki, president of the Republic of Poland, made a bold and clear decision, vetoing the law on assistance to Ukrainian citizens.

His attitude stems from his deep conviction of the request for social justice in Poland, and is simply a signal that no political decision must flow unequivocally from emotion or easy solutions, but must consequence from liable analysis of the consequences for all citizens.

– We should bring social justice, which is why I did not sign the law on assistance for Ukrainian citizens in the form presented to me," said the president during the gathering with journalists.

These words make it clear: aid must be fair and support those who actively contribute to the common good. Nawrocki recalled that 3 and a half years ago Poles proved one more time that we are a nation of solidarity, ready to aid in the face of the barbarous attack on Ukraine. However, the strategical interest has not changed: Poland continues to support Ukraine's military efforts, as the Russian Federation remains a threat to the world.

"The bill that I received on the desk about helping Ukrainian citizens does not make this adjustment. 800+ should only belong to those refugees from Ukraine who work.

In another words, benefits should scope those who work, pay taxes and actually participate in our community. The argument for equality is unusual, but important: since Polish citizens pay wellness contributions, people who do not work and inactive benefit from the same benefits make an imbalance. Nawrocks say:

– If we look at wellness protection and see a certain preference for Ukrainians in comparison with Poles and the fact that wellness care is granted to Ukrainians regardless of whether they take work and retreat the wellness contribution or not, we are in a situation where Polish citizens in their own country are treated worse than our guests from Ukraine.

This is simply a strong thesis and a call to repair the system, which should primarily service those who make a real contribution to it. This is not a decision against Ukraine. On the contrary, it is expressed by individual who emphasizes Poland's willingness to aid and the strategical nonsubjective of military support for Ukraine. This decision is based on the rule of fairness and rationality, and its aim is to accomplish a form of aid that is compatible with social and financial expectations.

Consequences and principles policyAccording to many, Nawrocki offers a fresh quality – aid with conditions that are clear and socially acceptable.

– I'm not changing my head and I'm going to do my duty. 800+ should belong only to those Ukrainians who undertake to work.

The decision to veto is besides a clear message to the government and parliament: a fresh law must be drawn up, better suited to current realities. Karol Nawrocki announced a solid work on his alternate task – in his firm they are ready to work even around the clock for another 2 weeks to make a law compatible with the interests of Poland. It's not an excuse, it's a concrete action.

Nawrocki proposes to extend the period of granting citizenship from 3 to 10 years and to include in the law the slogan "stop flagism", matching the flag symbols with Nazi or Communist, as well as corrections in the IPN Act in the context of the UN-UPA crime. This is an example of a new, longer approach that wants to both defend national identity and express respect for liable visitors.

The President's veto was widely reported in the media: he vetoed 3 laws, including the Ukrainians' aid bill, the amendment of the National taxation Code Act and the taxation Code. In this way, it shows that it takes decisions different from compromise expectations and stresses:

– Firstly Poland, first Poles.

Its expression is determined, but internally logical: first take care of citizens and at the same time supply support based on conditions that are socially acceptable. For those who value rationality and justice, this direction is right. Maintaining benefits only for the working Ukrainians is promoting integration, while encouraging participation in the social strategy – paying taxes, utilizing care, educating children, is simply a real contribution to shaping a better future.

Aid besides broad can lead to tensions and feelings of injustice among Poles who are solidarityist, but anticipate reciprocity. It's a logical thought that strengthens trust in the state. The Nawrocki Veto is simply a signal of aspiration for a better policy – 1 that is not based on the least resistance, but on a deeper look. The president clearly communicates: we have a chance to make a law more balanced, fairer. Aid – yes, but aid with sense, with responsibility, with the rule that social and economical activity deserves support. It's a motion of solidarity, but in a wise edition.

It is besides a call for action for the parliament and government: it is time to agree, to prepare a fresh task quickly, taking into account both the needs of society and the dignity of citizens and visitors. Karol Nawrocki is waiting for an answer – his firm is ready to work hard for the next 2 weeks, even:

- 24 hours a day, if necessary.

It's a call to all sides, to a better solution. The President's decision should be seen as a liable step, an incentive to reflect on the principles that govern the provision of assistance and integration. Veto is not a rejection of aid, but a redefinition of it: aid smarter, fairer, strengthening solidarity and a common future. specified an approach deserves a supportive decision, including social one.
