Parents and caregivers who are not eligible for maternity benefit may apply for parental benefit, colloquially referred to as ‘cochineal’. It's support in the amount PLN 1000 net per monthwhich are independent of income and not taxed. What conditions must be fulfilled to benefit from this form of aid?
Who can receive “sewing”?
The parental benefit is addressed to persons who are not entitled to maternity benefit. This includes:
- Students – both day and night students.
- Unemployment – regardless of registration at the labour office.
- Working on a work contract – persons who are not covered by the social safety scheme.
- Child’s actual guardians – who take care of him all day.
- Substitution families – but for professional foster families.
How long can you take a witness?
The period of payment depends on the number of children born with 1 birth or being cared for:
- 52 weeks – for 1 child.
- 65 weeks – for twins.
- 67 weeks For triplets.
- 69 weeks - For the quads.
- 71 weeks – with 5 hands or more children.
Importantly, the child's father may take over the right to benefit in certain cases, for example if the parent shortens the time of his/her intake (after a minimum of 14 weeks), if the parent has died or abandoned the child.
Application and time limits
In order to receive a parental benefit, an appropriate application should be submitted. It's got to be done over time. 3 months after the birth of the child or taking care of him. If the application is made after that date (but not later than 52 weeks after birth), the benefit will be paid from the period of submission of the documents.
Documents may be submitted in municipal social assistance centres (MOPS, GOPS) or via the platform Emp@tia.
When is there no benefit?
Not everyone can benefit from a “cochineal”. The benefit shall not be granted if:
- One parent receives maternity benefit.
- The kid will be placed in foster care.
- A parent or guardian does not supply individual care for the child, for example due to work.
- There is simply a conflict of rights – for example, if a guardian has the right to another care services, he must choose one.
What do you request to prepare?
The application for benefits shall be accompanied by:
- Birth certificate or paper confirming the custody of the child.
- Declaration that the parent or guardian does not collect maternity benefit.
- Documents confirming the position of parent (e.g. work contract, certificate from university).
Government support for 2024
The tallness of the “cochineal” in 2024 was maintained at PLN 1000 net per month. The benefit is not taxable, which means that the full amount goes to the beneficiary. This is simply a crucial financial support that can aid to cover basic expenses related to childcare, specified as the acquisition of food, diapers or clothes.
Why is “cochineal” popular?
According to data from the Ministry of household and Social Policy, young families and people who do not have the chance to work due to the request to take care of the kid are primarily used. The benefit gives them financial stableness in the first, frequently hardest period of a child's life.
What else is worth knowing?
- Payment of the benefit shall take place on a monthly basis.
- You can apply for simultaneous support from programmes specified as ‘500+’ due to the fact that both benefits are independent of each other.
- It is worth applying as shortly as possible after the birth of the kid to avoid delays in granting aid.
