Following the failure by candidate Citizen Coalition Rafał Trzaskowski's presidential election, the ruling coalition experiences a deep crisis. In this situation, the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz decided to talk plainly.
In 1 of the comments on the social network, the minister stated:
“I know those are bitter words, but it is better to say it now than to cry for 2 years.”
Those words hit like lightning. Pełczyńska-Nałęcz immediately pointed out the main problems that experts believe can lead to further divisions in government. The Minister stressed that if the ruling organization did not take decisive action, the effects would be seen in a fewer years – not only in the polls, but besides in the social and economical realities of the country.
Shortcomings in key reforms – where are the laws announced?
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz lists circumstantial shortcomings in the implementation of the government programme:
- TVP Act as actually a public medium – inactive not accepted.
- Anti-Cuvet taxation Management Act – the task was rejected by the coalitions.
- Local policy alternatively of major cities' priorities – alternatively of investing in cities specified as Płock, high-speed railways are developed mainly between the largest agglomerations.
- WIBOR Reform, which was intended to affect fairer lending conditions, besides failed.
- Fight for citizens' rights against developers – frequently run despite the government, not thanks to it.
The Minister noted that she had repeatedly protested as Minister of Regional improvement against these solutions, but the majority in the coalition was different.
The “holy cows” policy – who is untouchable?
The head of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy has assessed the government's financial policy sharply. She pointed out that banks, despite immense profits, stay untouchable and that the needs of the public sector – health, education or defence – must adapt to restrictions.
“The request for money for arms and health, but the banks, although earning a luck at the expense of our development, are untouchable.”
This message can be perceived as criticism of both the kind of governance and the deficiency of political courage in making hard decisions.
Time to change – but is there inactive time?
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz calls for actual change, not a copy of erstwhile models of power:
"Let's make a real change. Not to duplicate PiS or Confa, but to our own imagination of Poland. We have 2 years for this.”
It's a strong call to introspection inside the coalition. The Minister clearly points out that further parliamentary and local elections will be crucial – and the current road could lead to further election failures.
Tarcia in the coalition – is decay possible?
Against the background of these statements, there is clear interior friction. According to media information, the leader of Poland 2050 Simon Holovnia is to distance himself from full support for the government, which opens the anticipation of his parliamentary club abstaining in case of a vote of confidence.
Additionally, inside the Holovnia organization there are voices demanding the resignation of the full board. That suggests possible split in the smallest coalition partner.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk is to talk for the first time since the results of the presidential election, which may be crucial to the stableness of the government.
Summary
Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz's message is not only criticism of current politics, but besides The call to awaken the full coalition. The Minister shows that the failure to implement the reforms announced, the politicisation of key institutions and the imbalance in the allocation of investment funds can lead to electoral and social disasters.
Will the government listen? Can we fix mistakes in 2 years? These questions will be answered within months.
