On 30 June this year, a guest of the Polish thought Club in Łódź was Dr. Mateusz Piskorski, who presented the current geopolitical situation related to the war in Ukraine, in the context of the fresh elections to the European Parliament. The talker made a discrimination between forces aiming to put an end to the armed conflict in Ukraine and the environment seeking to escalate it. These 2 opposing camps were contractually referred to as “parties of peace” and “parties of war”.
Although the majority in the European Parliament inactive hold mainstream forces, supporting the Euro-Atlantic option and seeking further military assistance in favour of Ukraine, the success of fresh elections was sceptical towards the dominance of US influences in Europe and, consequently, the escalation of war. These groups primarily include the National Unity in France and the alternate for Germany (AfD). Strong anti-war trends are besides present in Hungary, Slovakia, Austria or Bulgaria. In these countries, the subject of war in Ukraine dominated electoral campaigns. Against this background, the situation in Poland is worrying, where the only recognised policy which powerfully opposed the continued provision of military aid Ukraine was Grzegorz Braun. However, the talker saw any changes in the communicative in the media, a affirmative example of which is the right-wing weekly “To Things”, which has late criticised the escalation of war activities.
While presenting the current geopolitical situation, Dr. Mateusz Piskorski went beyond the European framework, referring to an election run in the United States. The talker warned against putting excessive hopes in Donald Trump's election victory, stressing that he is an unforeseeable politician, and his election for the position of president of the United States does not necessarily mean the end of the war. Dr. Piskorski stressed that it is essential to separate Donald Trump's individual from the phenomenon of "trumpism", which is simply a bottom-up trend, most frequently without a translation into political decisions.
In the further part of the meeting, Dr. Mateusz Piskorski referred to Andrzej Duda's fresh visit to China, stating that the president is sending conflicting signals and that it is hard to measure his real intentions. According to the speaker, the visit to China should be assessed as a affirmative change, especially in the context of fresh statements by Andrzej Duda in Switzerland, where he raised the question of "the dismemberment of Russia". Mateusz Piskorski did not regulation out that in the close vicinity of the president there are people who want to look for alternate geopolitical solutions and silence war rhetoric.
The gathering attracted large interest, as evidenced by the almost one-hour discussion on the subject. The participants asked the talker many questions as well as related his statements. The gathering was organized in cooperation with the Roman Dmowski Club and its course was recorded on the "Chrobry Trail" channel. It is to be hoped that debates on specified crucial topics and issues will take place periodically.
