P. Szymanski: A shining way of progress. Roman Dmowski and the Ukrainian issue

"One of the most crucial issues of our interior and external policies is the Ukrainian question. It is widely understood, as 1 of the issues of nationality, which awakened to self-existent life in the nineteenth century, raised their speech from the folk's fance to the dignity of the Lithuanian language, and yet attained an independent state existence. In this sense, the arrival of a separate Ukrainian state on the map of Europe is only a substance of time, and not far away.

When the thought of nationality gained its position in Europe in the 19th century, the diplomacy of the large powers realized that in many cases it could be utilized perfectly in the fight against the enemy. Then 10 scholarships for Lithuanians were created at Moscow University, pupils of the Marjampolski mediate school. All the first Lithuanian activists came out of these scholarships. Much later it was only (without support and against the views of the Russian government) that they moved the movement from the Kingdom to Kowna, promoting it primarily in clergy seminars.
