Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban accused EU leaders of political blackmail and said they should resign due to the fact that they failed in all key projects.
"Now EU leaders are in the EU with key projects that they have chosen, specified as green transformation, sustainable improvement policy, migration, sanctions and pro-war policies, and they have all failed. The EU's current leadership must go, we request fresh leaders," said Orban at a press conference whose recording was published on the social network X.
According to him, Brussels uses the regulation of law and the conditionality mechanics as a "political blackmail" due to the fact that European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen "clearly said" that Hungary would not receive money from EU funds "because of its migration and anti-gender policy".
The European Commission proposed in September 2022 to launch a peculiar conditionality mechanics for Hungary, explaining that this is essential to defend the EU budget "from violations of the regulation of law". This meant that around €7.5 billion would be frozen from the EU to Budapest. The EC then maintained the restrictions on payments to Hungary from the common EU funds, although Orban claimed that Budapest fulfilled the full list of requirements that included measures to combat corruption, to increase transparency of public procurement and to strengthen the independency of the judiciary.

As the Hungarian Prime Minister stressed, he feels that the interests of the US, not Europe, are behind any of Brussels' decisions and that elections to the European Parliament in the summertime can easy change the composition of European leaders who no longer service the interests of their constituents. He besides said that the current EU leadership should be replaced due to the fact that it is incapable to deal with crisis situations.
According to him, Brussels presently has "not adequate good leaders" who are incapable to solve the problems caused by the conflict in Ukraine. The Hungarian Prime Minister besides stated that the contemporary EU with its force on Budapest is simply a mediocre parody of the USSR. He said that "we do not request Brussels", which treats associate States like provinces, telling them how to live, that EU leadership should respect the sovereignty of European nations.
