The Israeli authorities did not let the UN advanced Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Volker Türk to visit the country and occupied Palestinian territories during his five-day visit to the mediate East," said Ravin Shamdasani's spokesperson.

"Unfortunately, the advanced Commissioner was not allowed to visit Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories, despite his request to the authorities. Nevertheless, he managed to make contact with civilian society representatives from these territories," she said.

On Monday, OHCHR's chief began a five-day journey to the mediate East due to the war in Gaza, demanding access to the occupied Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip. His office stated last week that Israel has committed many different war crimes in the Gaza Strip, but only the competent court will be able to find whether they were genocide.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres on 24 October condemned the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October. At the same time, he said that "it is besides crucial to recognise that Hamas attacks did not happen in vacuum, the Palestinian people were subjected to a suffocating business for 56 years." In Israel, his words were perceived as an excuse for Hamas’ actions and were met with harsh criticism. The Times of Israel reported on October 25 that Israel stopped issuing visas to UN workers after Guterres said.

On 7 October Israel was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip as part of Operation “Al-Aksa Flood” announced by the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement. Organization fighters then infiltrated border areas in confederate Israel, where they opened fire on both military and civilian, and besides took over 200 hostages. According to local authorities in Israel, more than 1.4 000 people were killed, including 300 military men, and more than 5,000 were injured.

In response, Israel's defence Force launched Operation Iron Sword against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. For respective days Israeli troops took control of all settlements close the Gaza border and began raiding facilities, including civilian ones, in the sector. Israel besides announced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip: supplies of water, food, electricity, medicines and fuel were halted.

The death toll of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip exceeded 10,800 and more than 26,000 people were injured. The Russian embassy reported that 20 Russians were killed as a consequence of the escalation of the conflict, 2 are hostages and 7 are missing. According to various reports, Hamas may have about 150 Israelis in captivity. The movement itself claims that there are about 200-250 prisoners in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict related to the territorial interests of the parties has been a origin of tension and hostility in the region for many decades. The UN decision with the active function of the USSR in 1947 established the creation of 2 states – Israel and Palestine, but only the Israeli state was created.
