Iran's retaliation attack on the American base in Qatar

Iran confirmed that after 6:00 p.m., it carried out a retaliatory attack on the American al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The muslim Revolutionary defender Command (IRGC) called Operation “Annunciation of Victory” and announced that the goal was to punish the US for last week's raids on Iranian atomic facilities.

According to Iran's Tasnim agency, at least six medium-range ballistic missiles were fired from Iran's territory, targeting strategical American facilities close Qatar's capital, Doha. any of them were definitely intercepted by the Qatari air defence systems, but the details are inactive not full known.

People of Doha reported that flares appeared in the night sky, and in various parts of the city there were powerful detonation sounds. Witnesses pointed to both gunfire and cataract anti-aircraft batteries.

Al-Udeid Air Base is the largest American base in the mediate East, operating since 1996. It covers an area of about 60 acres and houses almost a 100 aircraft and drones. There are about 10,000 soldiers stationed there all day, and the complex serves as the U.S. Central Command office (CENTCOM) for operations in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

Iran's attack is part of an expanding wave of tensions following fresh US strikes on Iranian installations in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. The Iranian authorities do not exclude further controversies – even the temporary closure of the Strait of Ormuz, a key way for 25% of planet oil trade, could consequence in a sharp increase in natural material prices. The Qatari authorities immediately closed the airspace around Doha, and the US and UK embassies called on citizens to stay in safe areas. Washington, along with allies, closely monitors the situation, declaring its readiness to take further steps in the event of further escalation.
