From 11 September, as early as 6 am, the toll rates for each of the 3 50-kilometre episodes will increase, which means higher travel costs for all categories of vehicles. Autostrada Wielkopolska S.A. (AWSA), liable for the concession segment, justifies the decision of rising maintenance costs and ambitious investments. However, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) powerfully criticises increases, informing against serious consequences, including the transfer of traffic to local roads and the fall in security. This is the second increase this year, which raises legitimate concerns about the stableness of transport costs in Poland.

Why the Wielkopolska road Raises Fees?
Autostrada Wielkopolska S.A. explains the request to rise the A2 toll rates on the Nowy Tomyśl-Konin section with respective key factors. The main argument is increasing costs of maintaining and operating motorway infrastructure. The AWSA points to a crucial increase in expenditure related to ongoing surface repairs, the modernisation of safety systems and the maintenance of investment debt, which is financed exclusively by a private concessionaire.
In addition, the company is presently implementing a number of key investment projects. Among them can be the construction of a 3rd lane for each direction on the 10 km section of Poznań Krzesiny – Poznań East and the comprehensive modernization of Poznań East, Poznań Krzesiny and Poznań Luboń nodes. AWSA informs that the cost of these investments, including the expansion of 16 km of motorway between Poznań West and Poznań Krzesiny junctions, over PLN 350 million. The company besides bears the costs associated with the implementation and maintenance of the electronic toll collection strategy (videotolling) and preparation for subsequent technological innovations.
GDDKiA Critic and Warning: safety Threat on Local Roads
Planned A2 increases met with fierce criticism from the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways. As early as mid-August, GDDKiA expressed its deep dissatisfaction in an authoritative post submitted to the AWSA. The Directorate stressed that "does not approve specified frequent and over time crucial increases in toll rates". This is peculiarly crucial given that this is the second increase in this episode this year.
The main concern of GDDKiA is the possible transfer of parts of traffic, especially dense vehicles, from road to alternate roads. Higher travel costs can lead drivers to bypass the paid section A2 and usage local roads that are already being charged with traffic. "This runs counter to the function of motorways in the country's communication system", GDDKiA points out. The Directorate warns that specified a phenomenon "It besides leads to a decrease in safety levels of both drivers and another traffic participants, as well as residents of the surrounding towns". This is simply a serious threat that could lead to an increase in accidents and a deterioration in surviving conditions in regions adjacent to the motorway.
Second Increase in the Year: past of Price Increases on A2
The current raise, entering into force on 11 September, is already the second in 2025 for episode A2 fresh Tomyśl-Konin. The erstwhile change in rates occurred in March this year, erstwhile the toll for a 50-kilometre section for passenger cars increased from 34 PLN to 36 PLN. The increases then besides affected another categories of vehicles: from PLN 55 to PLN 60 for vehicles with trailers and buses, from PLN 88 to PLN 92 for three-axle vehicles, from PLN 132 to PLN 138 for trucks with trailers and from PLN 340 to PLN 360 for over-normative vehicles.
Going further into history, it should be recalled that in September 2024 there was besides an increase in prices, besides by PLN 2 for passenger cars. specified a frequency and scale of growth raises concerns among drivers and experts, pointing to the expanding financial burden for road users. The cumulative effect of these increases makes travelling on the A2 motorway more expensive, which can have a real impact on the transport choices of Poles.

For drivers travelling on the A2 motorway on the fresh Tomyśl-Konin section, the changes entering into force on 11 September mean primarily higher journey costs.
