The increase of the toll road network by about 1.6 1000 km from 1 November of this year is simply a government regulation that will become applicable on Friday. The fresh rules apply only to vehicles with a maximum permissible weight exceeding 3,5 t, i.e. trucks and buses.
Currently, fees are charged on about 3.6 1000 km of national roads of all categories. The toll road network has not been expanded since 2017.
The Government Communication of 22 October, erstwhile the Regulation was adopted, stated that the expansion of the toll road network is intended to increase revenues of the National Road Fund, from which road investments are financed, among others. This will proceed to extend the network of national roads in Poland. The fresh rules will besides foster a gradual increase in the share of rail in freight transport. This reduces CO2 emissions from transport.
In Poland, the collection of fees is carried out by e-TOLL and is carried out via satellite system. This means that there is no request to install devices for this on the roads.
The electronic toll is based on the principles of "pay-pay-pay-pay-pay-pay-pay-pay-pay-pay-pay-paying rates depend on the mass of vehicles and on the exhaust emanation standard.
